Where is the best place to live in NZ

I have been asked by a potential employer where I would like to be based in NZ. As I have only experienced the North Island and for some reason mostly the west coast I would like to get a little more knowledge of other parts of NZ from residents. I know that everyone will have different opinion and taste but it is a little difficult to gain the experiences for myself.

I would like to know where you would most like to live in NZ and why?

Hmmm I chose Tauranga, not that I have actually lived there, visited plenty but I am going to try my hardest to work as a house surgeon there.
Its always sunny, close to Auckland if your that way inclined. Heaps of sweet roads, Close to Taupo track, good surf, it has always just seemed like a happy place to be.
Have lived in Dunedin for the past five years, its not bad but way too cold! Palmerston North is shit!
Wellington is amazing, very cultural there's always sweet live music happening somewhere. Not too big a city...I don't like big so much

    Nelson
    Good climate.
    Great roads
    Happy people
I would love to make Nelson my home base when I retire, as from there I can get to anywhere, north island or south island with the min fuss. There is a large biker community in the area, a great starting point for any bike ralley.
If I need to get some casual work for extra cash, there are heaps of Vineyards and orchards around that always need a casual worker.

Tauranga makes sense. Close to Coromandel...

Have they given you all those cities as options?

Nope but just tying to get a feel of what NZ has to offer and what the regions are like too.

    Tauranga rocks!!!!

Like rachprice said, sun, surf, sand, chicks in bikinis, lots of bikers, the posuer crew, sweet roads, mint people. Hell where else would you want to live!

I lived in Wellington for 9 years and it was great fun, but the shit weather got to me in the end, lived in the waikato for ages but the fog got me there!

Wow!- from a biking perspective - ANYWHERE in NZ is cool.
Depends what you are looking for though Im sure. The east coast of the north island between south Auckland and Whakatane has awesome road loops, google Pacific Coast Highway and Coromandel Loop 3 race tracks, safe beaches, lakes, thermal areas
and hot pools. Employment, Restaurants, Pubs, Concerts, Bike shops. Dirt bike riding is well catered for. Taupo hosted 2006 ISDE. Huge MX scene family trailrides every weekend! Over The Top Adventures. Trail Tours.

    get over here

I've never been there but I'd vote Nelson too. (Top of the South Island). Good location, good climate, neither too big nor too small.

Most definitely Nelson, for all of the above!!!!!

as well as: if you are into the outdoors, we have drop dead stunning mountains, rivers, & beaches.. & all within an hour (ish) drive from the central city! A fantastic arty crafty scene! Tis an incredibly picturesque place to live (check out a heap of my photo attachments)! While it was apparently freezing cold & snowing just out of ChCh today.. I had all the doors & windows open, basking in a glorious day here!!!!

Orewa. Second choice probably agree with MyGSXF and pick Nelson or the Rye Valley between Nelson and Blenheim. Beautiful!
