Anyway. Here's a picture of Invercargill in the Winter. Looks warm enough to me.

Me? Serious? Well maybe a bit... We do like it here, 'cept for the traffic going North every weekend. Still a nice town with a great beach and close to everywhere.

Christchurch is the best City in my opinion. Brought up in Auckland, lived in Chch for 7 years and the climate is great (except for about 6 to 8 weeks of cold, the people are a bit reserved but good when you get to know them, the roads are brilliant and there's not too much traffic. You can't get lost here either, navigate via the Alps or Port Hills or just follow the 'black lines' over the hill and your in Akaroa. ps if you're after a job in psychiatry/prison still I have a friend you could send your CV to. He's not directly in charge of that department but would be a good starting point. pm me if you want his details

    Wow

Thanks gus you really have given me so much food for thought!! Seems like the KB population is really split!!

I guess if I don't have a job to go to before I arrive I might just head down to the South Island for a little while to see what I think. Christchurch sounds really interesting and quaint and I have heard that the scenry down south is awesome.

I don't have a problem moving to somewhere I have never visited before and have done this a few times but if I would like OWNER to come with me it is only fair to try and make a decision that doesn't have him going nuts cos the roads are w*nk or there is bugger all to do.

Anyhoo shall be googling all the places suggested to have a giz and shall see if I can see why you are raving about certain places. After all one mans meat is another mans poison etc etc.

Invercargill. Famously described by Brian Moore (ex-England #2) as being "twinned with Chernobyl".

Haven't read the whole thread... What's your work situation? What do you do for a living? Have you found work? What about Owner? Or are you one of those lovely, romantic, optimists?

NZ is SMALL and most of those cities are tiny in terms of job opportunities. Great places to live if you can earn a living. (Note the big "if").

There's 4 million people in NZ.

There is no reason at all for anyone to descend into parochial chest beating at the first hint of someone asking a genuine question because the reality is the character of NZ towns and cities is established by its primary function and the amount of money its inhabitants can borrow.

Quite frankly Rudolph's reply has me considering leaving NZ again, but I keep remembering the way Wellington looked when we came back from the last OE.

NZ is a great place to live, but a lot of the population who've never travelled, and by that I don't mean a beer fuelled stay in Shepherd's Bush or Sydney, have an over-inflated opinion of NZ's importance in the scheme of things, and an under-inflated appreciation of what they have at their finger tips.

Overall though, the Reactionary (note the big R) nature of the "average" (you know, racist, elitist so long as the elite don't earn more than 60K a year, materialist, oval-ball sport worshipping, Ford or Holden driving) Kiwi does blight the way we treat each other. The Overt Racism inherent in somewhere like Southampton or LA is much easier to deal with than the subtle tension that defines everything in NZ.

NZ - the land of absolutes.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Wicked...could surmise that you may have social issues and find it hard to play with others?

IMO most places in N.Z are good however some are simply better than others but it all really comes down to what one requires from where they live.
Personally I'm/we're enjoying living in Tauranga for several reasons.
Plenty of work...good live style...close to Taupo track and soon to be Hampton Downs...close to Auckland (kids/parents etc there)...gorgeous beaches for a City...excellent roads for riding...good people...did I mention Taupo track and Hampton Downs?
A place is but a place...it's what you make of it.
