Teenage motorcycle rider Toriano Wilson has died following a crash at Virginia International Raceway yesterday.

The 14-year-old, of St. David’s — described as a rising star of Bermuda’s motorsports scene — sustained fatal injuries in the accident during the Red Bull AMA US Rookies Cup.

He was taken to the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill. A spokesman this morning said he had succumbed to his injuries.

Reports in the US say Toriano wiped out on Turn Six of Lap One of his race. Two other teenagers were involved in the smash, one of whom, Argentinian Luciano Ribodino, was taken to Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Sad news to hear of such a young and upcoming rider. Condolences to his family, friends and to all of those rookie riders who were out there racing with him. Hope the other 2 riders involved in the crash recover fully from their injuries. RIP.
