    Suggestion to getting broken L-Plates

Don't know about anyone else but I found that the standard L-Plates that you can buy tend to break after a couple of 100kms if they are only fixed at the top.

They bend fatique and break (Although this could just be a clever design feature to stop you exceeding 70Km/h).

Cure: I purchased a yellow plastic kart racing plate from my local kart shop. I purchased two number '1' racing numbers and stuck thes on to make and 'L'.

Kart plates are much heavier duty than the plastic that the L-Plates are made of. Kart plates are traditionally mounted on the back bumper and are frequently rammed by the front bumper of the kart behind - so they are made to endure some abuse. Oh and they are also cheap!

Hope this tip is useful to someone else.

I only ever used mine for my restricted test!

Fix a computer and it'll break tomorrow.
Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.

70km/h sucks. But it's the law...

I'll have a go and see how my L plates handle the rough. I wouldn't go as hardcore as buying something super strong and spending big bucks... If they come off or break all the time then they don't want to be on there, do what they wish, be a gentleman, or woman, whatever you are.

Im used the thin ones for cars and got one of those big 3L juice bottles and cut the the biggest flat part of it out which was the label and a little bit more around it.

the just glue the L plate onto it and cut the hard plastic to size and drill a hole. I still have it on, even for my restricted this afternoon

Get one of those see thru floppy ones & attatch it to the bottom of your back guard.
They suck up under the guard from the tyre suction when moving & drop down when you stop.

I know. It's a damn shame I haven't got round to reattaching mine...

Likewise.... I've only ever worn L plates twice while riding...once for my restricted test and once for when I got my first bike....I went on a blat down to Tauranga from Auckland, got halfway down and realised it had gone...never put another one on lol

$400, from memory. I live on the North Shore and I was on my L's for a little over 6 months, never wore L plates after the first week or so and never had a problem, never got pulled over or anything.

I could have been just lucky admittedly but my thoughts are that if you ride confidently and sensibly, police will leave you alone.

You could always just wear it and take the risk of doing 70 kmph on the motorway, or doing 100 kmph and risk getting pulled up for it. I imagine more people won't have a problem with wearing them once the law changes and you can do 100 on your L's.

So someone that actually wants an L-Plate on their bike keeps on getting fragile ones, whereas the cheeky guys end up getting tough ones they have to cut so they appear as though they've broken. How ironic.
