Question How to remove paints on plastic

i was thinking of removing my sidings on hornet 250...( the plastic is located @ the sidings just below the seat) the old owner painted it with the same body color... i want to remove it and return it to black... original color... plastic black... thinner won't work because it will just make the plastic white... so anymore ideas are really a help... tried it with sandpaper... but it give me nerves doing it.. that i might damage the cover... and scratch it to hell...

Soak it for a week in old brake-fluid.

Won't harm the plastic but WILL soften the paint.
