    My overseas thread

Well. Don't think I've been so glad to be in an airport before in my life. I'm in Singapore, after a 10hr flight or something, it's 7:35pm and it's 29 degrees C. I'm glad to be outta the plane, but the heat in this place isn't going down to well. I officially don't like it.

Was a good flight, nothing too exciting to be honest, but all good. Thanks again to those who've made this dream of mine a reality. I can't actually believe I'm starting on my year away already. It's come 'round so damn fast, which probably means it will be over so fast too... I'm not even in Belgium (or Europe for that matter!) and it's going fast.

Anyway, must dash. My 15mins is running out and I've got some people to find in this place.

Note to self: Singapore airport is weird. They have yuck carpet, a weird statue (I dubbed it Adam and Eve), and a forest in the middle of it.

    I don't think so.

I was working an un-airconditioned SIA shed out in the airport's secure zone. Got an oddly large itchybite on my arm and 24 hours later I was completely fucked, fever, paralysing all-over aches, etc. Never bothered to get the blood tests done as the symptoms cleared within a week, but the rest of my stay in Sing was shit. Couldn't even summon the energy to visit Orchard Towers.

Singapore's luvverly. Air's a bit harder to breathe than at home, but the food is good, the transport works, and the people are friendly. As they say, it's a fine city.

Of course Changi ain't Singapore, it's just one of those crappy transit spaces that all airports are. (Hey it's still better than KLIA, and that won awards and shit too). I suppose I'm saying don't write the whole country off on the basis of the airport. I've spent far, far too many 7 hour stopovers in Changi to even remotely like the place, but Singapore - I'd live there, given a chance.

Of course, not everyone's a fan.

    Enjoy your travels!

Bugger, it's too late now but there's a swimming pool at the T1 hotel. Sing$10 for a swim and a hot shower is just the thing between two long-haul flights.

Never mind, remember that for the return trip.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Hey everybody!

Excuse the horrible spelling s'il vous plait - keyboards are very different and I don't have ages to proof read.

Belgium eh? Bruxelles is fucking amazing. There's so much to do and see, and everything is so old and beautiful. Sat in the town square and drank screwdriver which was far too strong to be anything but bad for me, but it was choice. It's actually an awesome feeling (sober) to be sitting in the presence of buildings that are older than how long European's have been in NZ for.

Orientation camp was cool.. I learnt 1-5 in heaps of languages (English, Maori, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, Hungarian, Turkish and Czech), mum just said I was a language slut. Got to meet heaps of cool people, made friends with the all the cool/weird European countries (The Fins, Nowegians, Icelandic and Czechs). And the Turkish guys were funny as too.

I've seen quite a bit of Brussels already, and what I've seen so far has been awesome. Loads of pics, but can't put them up 'cause I don't have my camera here atm.

Bear didn't get up front, because the Asians hardly spoke English, and they were all bitchy as. And I was so tired on the Singapore - Frankfurt leg that I slept for 70% of the way, which was good.

Anyway, must dash. My email is funk_drumma@hotmail.com if any of you want to keep in touch via that, or you can PM me too. I won't be on much as my host family don't have internet, but hopefully my new host family will (I'm only in this one for a month). *Crosses fingers*
