tbh you'll be hard-fetched to do a day trip to taupo banzai....it'll be a bloody boring ride and if you plan on doing any of the fun routes, you'll probably end up having to leave very early and coming back very late.....unless you take sh1 in which case back to square one and itll be bloody boring

I am planning to leave very early, then either take SH1 to taupo, have hot spring then ride back through twisties or twisies, hot spring than SH1.

Or maybe do the day trip stuff that Toto did...

I just wanna travel NZ. So far I only been to Chch, Taupo and Kaiaua lol

mite pay to make it an overnighter....coz accomodation will only add on like $20-$30 and means you get to enjoy the trip a shitload more as opposed to being time restricted and also having to ride for a long period of time continuously....my 2 cents

hey banzai. i'm down for the ride to taupo tomorrow... only day i'm free for the rest of this week is tomorrow, so i'm down for the long wed ride... but would hope to be back in town by about half 5 if possible. so early leave? what time to meet at your place? any1 else keen?

if not taupo, mayb just a good trip to some place with some decents twists that'll kill a good portion of the day... im prob worse than u with the amount of nz travelling that i've done, so i'm all ears for a suggested route.

was a hard day of no riding... but at about 4, when the little rain that did fall had dried up (for the most), i took the bike out and headed into the general piha-type direction. little to no traffic along the scenic route. only did a short segment of it, as i had to head for some work in town there-after. went as far as arataki. was careful, as it was my first time biking that route, and managed to do an average "see teh speed limit for a bend, double it and MINUS ten". haha. sorry andrew, but not quite yet ready to go as far as u can.... but i'm working on it

all in all, it was fun... bigger rush that i expected! am keen to do it more often, seeing a it's a whloe five mins away (15 if u take the longer twistier route that goes past the house rather than the main streets)... good practice terrain!
