    Mussels.. the best food ever.

Prefer them the most when they're smoked but the holy triad of Garlic, Ginger and chilli always goes absolutely beautifully.

Otherwise, boiled with water, white wine and garlic is good too.

Not too sure what the colour means but I don't think it's the sex..

Another wee reminder, always remove the 'beard' before cooking them, i've been to a couple of restaurants where they've left it in.. not tasty chewing a mussel's pubic hair.

Fark I prefer the ones from "Foodtown Rock".
You gotta try Kina fresh out of the water , just the row. Or fried in butter for no more than 30 secs then spread on toast, mmmmmm. Just beware of the "Kina Farts" only share them with close friends or you will have none.

Meh - The only reason to eat mussels is if you can't afford oysters.

I don't know that you can make that trans-tasman generalisation.

Mostly the food is better over this side, I think.

Last two trips to Aus I stayed at the Menzies and the Mercure.

Both 4 star joints. The steak at the Menzies was probably the worst I've ever been served - on either side - and the one at the Mercure was probably the best.

Crikey, I loves seafoods I does, but seafood now does not love me ... gout gout and almighty gout ... blardy painful it be, miss me feeds of mussels, scallops, the occasional oyster, pipis, cockles etc.

Used to love scooting down to Maraetai and hauling up a small feed of them delicious molluscs and bivalves!

I hate it when I have to cook them for others and I can only stare at them, wafting their tantalising aromas across my forlorn tastebuds and olafactory receptors
