Greetings from California - can I ride with you?

I hope it's OK to join up here and eventually end up riding with a few of you. I'm a long time off roader turned desert racing freak recently. Since dirt is in my blood and I want to visit your wonderful continent, I thought I would see if any of you can help me here.

For a long time my wife and I have talked about visiting Australia and vicinity for what we've always hoped would be a reasonably long vacation. We were thinking two to three weeks. Thankfully work has been good to us but very busy. Coupled with kids growing up, time to disappear for a while hasn't presented itself until now. Since we've been busy spending money on kids and at work, the credit card points have continued to accrue. I was shocked when my wife told me how many we have. Looks like it's time to begin planning for this trip.

Like most of us I couldn't dream of not spending at least a few consecutive days in the dirt while I'm there. So much that I would plan a portion of our travels to coincide with the best off road riding you can tell me about. Of course I will need the services of a tour company who can rent me a nice bike that will haul the mail and show me where to take it. I'm all eyes and ears for where to go, when to go and who to go with. Can anyone help here?

Off the off road, in addition to spending time on the mainland Australia I feel like I'd like to visit Tazmania, Fiji and some other cool places around the area for a few days if it's worth it. Anyone care to enlighten me here? Where might I go to get the "real deal" info on these travels and the good places to stay without having to hear from some travel agent who's "heard about it"?

Thanks in advance for whatever help you can offer me.

    You're funny, mister.

You also just managed to alienate pretty much everyone on this forum.

If your post was an intentional troll, then well played.

For your next assignment, you are to log on to irishbikers.net and tell them how much you're looking forward to riding around England, and ask what areas in their part of it offer good trails.

And when you're done with that, go find a Texan and call him a Yankee.

I prefer the tunnel when its windy. Fortunately at this time of year (just about the end of summer) that isn't really a problem.

Yep - they have no idea that Oz is larger than the 48 states. And you gotta wonder at the comment about Taz...does he think that manhunting is still sanctioned there? I mean, why else would anyone go there?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The Tazzie niggers were hunted to extinction ages ago. A sobering lesson in the virtues of sustainable herd management.

    We're sure they are.

But making that honest-but-incredibly-stupid mistake is just such stereotypical 'blinkered American who's never been overseas or even looked at a world atlas' behaviour that they deserve a solid page or two of pisstaking before we deign to assist them in their biking endeavours.

Mr Coffey, just in case you read this thread and are sad because we have mocked your lack of geopolitical education, allow me to assure you that if you do reach these shores, ie, New Zealand, we will all be very pleased to extend you our hospitality, ride with you, and offer as much advice as you like regarding getting the most from your travels. It's just what KBers do with tourists on motorcycles.

But we can't speak for the fuckin' Aussies. You'll need to find an Australian forum if you need help with that, mmkay?
