Talking 50 days until the LA unwrapping

A chunk of yesterday was spent helping a bunch of Harley riders, a Triumph rider and the owner of an ST1300 but their bikes, together with my FJR1300, into crates in readiness for their transit to Los Angeles California.

We will not see our respective steeds again until 15 July 2008 (NZ time).

I hope that Big Yam doesn't fret. I taped a picture of myself into the inside of his crate so he can be constantly reminded of me during our separation. That, plus his blankie, hottie bottle, teddy bear and alarm clock, should all help him not get too anxious.

The things we do for adventure on new, exotic roads...

So, no more riding for a while? Or do you have a spare bike to repel the withdrawl symptoms?

Was there a large amount of cleaning needed for MAF clearance? Also, paperwork wise, what amount of effort was needed to export/import to USA?

You're not even gone yet, and I'm already squirming with envy.

Here's hoping the Yamaha makes the voyage without problems, and that she's waiting for you patiently at the other end.

It will be mid-winter here when you're on your big OE. Bastard...

Hopefully the USA importing standards will be similar to those applied here: no mud/dirt, insect or plant material.

The paperwork isn't too onerous. No carnet required. We can ride on NZ rego, etc, for up to 90 days (IIRC). If the bike were to remain in the USA, the paperwork would be significantly more.

Like those above me I wish you all the best in your travels.

Now seeing you asked so nicely (I know you'd ask if I were there).

    I want:
Daily updates on travel and destination
With pictures (I am a visual man)

Go on.... make me green with envy, double dare you.

I shall do my best to maintain regular contact whilst abroad.

We have recently procured a laptop with that new-fangled WiFi carry on. After four weeks, its DVD/CD drive has already failed after having only been used for about 4 minutes, not helping my inherent distrust of portable computing devices. And as for Vista... (seethe, fume)

Heh, the order in which you put those pics into your album means that you can link to it in your 'my bike is back home!' thread.

    Food for thought anyway.
