I'm suprised to see I'm not in any of the photos of the V8,I was hanging around it like a bad smell.

Guzzis arrrrrrrrrr love em to bits.Had an 1100 sport then got the 1000 daytona for the extra power.Ahard lesson learned was that never ever try to roll start one as i snapped the shaft.Think ill stick with the aprilia now though.Yeeeeee haaaaaa
You mean like a push start?? I did that 'once' over and over again..... frigen electrics and in the middle of know were.... then what ya know a 5yr old woundered along asked if he could push the start button, i figgered well it ait going to start anyway....... I dont know who shit there pants more me or him cos the bitch started...... never ever figgered that one out................. shit were was I . ohh yeah hell I even pulled a few whelie's (with great difficulties) and never had any probs with the shaft and it was up to 80,000kms.Originally Posted by warren35

so ... has anyone ridden the 102 bhp version of the 1100 ? ... (and yes, I've been looking at the Aprilla as well, and wondering whether 120 hp is enough ?)
It would be nice if someone made a list of the power and torque ratings of the larger bikes .... plus weight .
No such thing as a 102hp 1100............ unless you do some work to a 1100i, I think that you mean the 1000 Daytona RS...... which puts out 102hp, which I have ridden.Originally Posted by ResidentAngel
1st up stock 1100 90hp, heaps a grunt there mostle down low compared to the 1000RS its a more usable bike.
The 1000RS is a lot smother, dead under 4000rpm unlike the 1100sport but has a really fun power band but balls out isent what ya really need all the time.
The differance between these bikes is push rod/cam belt, 2 valve/4 valve, 1100cc/1000cc, over head rocker/overhead cam, 90hp/102hp, 230k/240k, semi floating/full floating dics

OK ..I've found a 125 CV, 1420cc kit for a guzzi ....Originally Posted by dangerous
Think of 500cc spread among 8 cylinders - 44mm bore and even smaller 42mm stroke - that where the revs came from. Also getting 4 valves and a spark plug into a 44mm combustion chamber would call for the sort of casting wizardry that Honda perfected with the 250-6, but it was probably beyond Italy at that time.Originally Posted by dangerous
(i'm aware that you found the reference to these being a 2v motor, just like rambling on about this sort of thing)
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Big bucks tho aye? 125hp can be done, infact I think someone has managed 136hp these specs are for the 4 valve motor dont no whats possible out of a 2 valver.Originally Posted by ResidentAngel

ok .... now .. I want a Guzzi Ballabio (so I can sit up!) ... tuned like a VMax ... grins .... with a decent fairingOriginally Posted by dangerous
the kit is for the 850 and 1000 engines ... I presume that they are very different from the 1100? And there are no costs given ...
I loved my guzzi ... it was very very safe, despite the fact I fell off it ( I was really tired at the time, and I made a mistake, looking for children getting off a bus, and not seeing the fact that the bus was actually stopped for cattle crossing the road - stupid me was looking for people, and not expecting cows!) ... what a waste of a nice guzzi!
if you want a Ballabio with a decent fairing then the V11 Lemans corsa is what ya need.Originally Posted by ResidentAngel
850/1000 are the same block as the 1100..... differant cams valves etc basicly the same.
damn.... yes that was a wast, but better the Guzzi than you aye![]()

yeah mate the bastard snapped when i tried to roll start it down the hill but it had a gut full of fuel and when i dropped the clutch in third it went bang in a big way.i recon the 1000 daytona is a better reving big and did give better performance over my 1100 sport which had lanfraconi sports cans and a aport chip and dynoed at 87 hp.the injected 1100 was my preferance to ride thoughOriginally Posted by dangerous
Well I better add my opinion.
Bump starting my 850 Mk2 is a piece of piss. Don't try it on an spine frame (odd drive shaft) or an EFI bike without the diode to protect the 'puter.
Without machining, I think that the biggest practical limit to a round fin is 950cc and 1050cc for a square fin. After that, be prepared to spend big $$$.
Dunno about the broad sump engine (V11)
If you want a Guzzi, cherish it for what it is, do the usual modifications but if you think it can be a 120bhp plus superbike you will be disappointed. Yes, the factory claimed 102 / 90 for the Daytona / 1100 sport but. Well most honest dynos show them a little lighter than that!
I love Guzzis. They demand commitment but reward the soul but a 2 valve aircooled ditch pump with it's origins firmly in the 60's is not going to compete with a water cooled multi valve OHC modern jappa in terms of BHP or liveability.
Hot it up if you must but perhaps you could just love one for what it is! A product of original thinkers that totally believe they are going the right way despite all the sign posts warning them of the cliffs ahead! Ya just gotta love that!

BTW - Mine make about 56 RW BHP after a good tune up which is great for a roundie. The straight cut box gives me a few more ponies through less friction.
hey Paul.... all so true, and yes I knew I shouldent have pushed my bike.Originally Posted by Paul in NZ
