    Lawyers, sooooo trustworthy...

Now there could be added truth to the story... (Tui, anyone?)

Rickards seeks admission to bar as lawyer.

Former assistant police commissioner Clint Rickards has applied for admission to the bar as a lawyer.

Rickards was acquitted of historical sex charges in March last year and resigned from the police in November.

He has been studying law at Auckland University and has applied to the High Court in Auckland for admission as a barrister and solicitor, Radio New Zealand reported.

However, before this can happen he has to obtain a character approval certificate.

Auckland District Law Society members have the opportunity to comment on the suitability of candidates.

A lawyer casting aspersions as to the character of Used Car Salesmen was gently reminded that there are more Lawyers than Used Car Salesmen, in Gaol.
I am confident that all the people I know are of the opinion that he should be in Gaol.
Atheism and Religion are but two sides of the same coin.
One prefers to use its head, while the other relies on tales.

Interesting. Technically, he hasn't been convicted of a crime so there should be no reason he shouldn't be admitted.

Unless they can object for "bringing the Police into disrepute", which seems unlikely because he resigned, and wasn't sacked.

Thanks to the press/kangaroo court, he was guilty as sin, and will always be remembered as such. Some times mud sticks long after you try to make it wash away

A voice of reason. How uncommon.

    A character certificate?

Well, that describes pretty much every male law student I've ever met...

    As you should be!

I bet the thought makes many a person shiver thinking that 20-30-40+ years later, a person you had sex with could come back and say it was rape... "It's not what you drink, it's how you drink."

His admission to the bar or his rejection for approval, is not one of conviction or lack of it but character. Will be interesting to see if he succeeds or not.
