    Sunday 16th Jan -> CORO!!!

    For those of us that
    a) Can't make track day
    b) Can't make Death's ride (eeeek - that sounds too ominous)
    c) wanna do some twisties

    I am riding to Whitianga to get there somewhere between 12 and 1. Proposed Route:
    SH1 -> Papakura
    Through Hunua to Hotel du Vin
    SH2 to the Miranda turn off
    Miranda turn off to Waitakaruru
    Waitak to Kopu
    Kopu Hikuai (SH25) to Whitianga.

    I've got some family there and need to pick something up, but would leave Whitianga around 2pm coming back exactly the same way. It takes me about 3 hours each way... all company welcome PLEASE??!!??!

    Just wanna

    Ride of the year!

    What a fantastic day.

    This was a fantastic ride, although only the 3 of us, but perfect weather and a very different lunch stop.
    I'll let someone else ellaborate.
    Although one of our number needed new underwear after an overtaking manouvre involving a tractor

    Saw a heap of bikes in Coromandel...

    I was in the Impreza unfortunately, but was anyone from this website riding a gold Triumph Daytona? Most impressed with his riding when he overtook me on the Thames coast road - very smooth and deceptively quick.

    GREAT day

    Awww - thanks guys.

    Yokai showed up at the Abahn late (again)... but only a couple of minutes - so that was OK... 6Chris6 and MikeL waiting to keep me company... Took off to find a new way through to PPkura (cos I usually turn off before the Abahn) Saw what we think might have been Ulysses at a pub in Drury.

    Lovely weather - I mean LOVELY weather. Damn shame that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle kit is so hot! ... But anyways - on to Hotel Du Vin through Hunua with some lovely twisty bits - nobody doing any CSI stuff (thank goodness) and a lovely little blat. Straight through to Waitakaruru, having left the Mway at the Miranda turn off. Yes, the SRV is a little underpowered for that overtaking manoeuvre, but we don't mention the tractor. Surprisingly, I was very calm, and very glad it wasn't one of those tractors with prongs on the front - after that I was apparently "somewhat cautious" when overtaking...

    Stopped at the Pipiroa Country kitchen for a quick coffee, and a chat with some guy who had gone up to Coleville the night before... Kopu for gas, and then a fast blat to Whitianga, which was prevented by hay trucks. Got past the Hay trucks, *6Chris6 way off in the front* and then passed 6Chris6 at the Whangamata turn off where he was "havin' a faaaag". Stopped in Tairua for a quick "Hey we're in Tairua" phone call and a quick piss. Then to Whitianga - just ahead (for 2 of us) of the Hay truck. Yokai passes the haytruck by doing 80 in the 50 zone right in front of the police station. No sirens . Get to Whitianga, and are invited for a cup of tea, coffee and dessert over at mrs Ys, Mum's.

    Mrs Y's Mum's has no road access - so we had to get on Mrs Y's Mum's Boyfriend's little motor thing, and pootle over... Coffee, Cheese and Bread, Some berry thing (Yokai's on a diet, so didn't have any) nice chat with the people that have rented Mrs Y's Mum's other property. Note: Mrs Y's Mum is french, Mrs Y's Mum's Boyfriend is English. They are pretty self sustained - For a lovely visit, check out: www.estuary.co.nz {/shameless plug}

    Then off to do the loop. Tairua had given us advanced warning of the melting tarmac... UGH! like *as MLC said* a black sea. Just far too much melty stuff - tarmac coming off the road with the tires - Yokai sure that there was something wrong with the bike or something.... Just a LOVELY ride down in to Coromandel, 6Chris6 again on ahead (thanks MikeL for cruising with me!) so much so that we missed him... or rather Mike missed him, and I thought "Oh Mike's got experience - he knows what to do" and so I ignored Chris (sorry, mate!).

    Lovely blat through to Wilson Bay and that road. stopped for Ice cream in Te Puru (I think - or is that Waiomu - F***in' expensive petrol - don't stop there, except for icecream).... then through to Miranda where Chris didn't get any pics - Note - Hey! where's the one of me in front of the bikes!?

    Then up through to the Castle Cafe - shut at 6:30... so a ginger beer in the gas place across the road. Decided to meet at Hunua for a final farewell and then motorway home... Mike L off first, then Yokai then 6Chris6 ...

    What a great day... lovely ride - so far my best yet....

    What a great ride!!
    Would have been absoutely perfect if there had been a bit less traffic and a slightly more solid road surface! Other than that, awesome... Only a couple of the whole way.
    Thanks to Yokai's girlfriend's Mum's boyfriend (I think I got that right) for the boat ride and his g/f's Mum for the hospitality (that berry thing was a clafoutis - heavenly) and the chance to practise my French.
    And it was hot! Just as we got back to Hunua the clouds gathered and the temperature dropped a few degrees... typical Auckland welcome home.
    Thanks Yokai for organising the ride, and Chris for your company (no more fuel pump hassles, fortunately) and apologies for missing you back there at the Coromandel turn-off. Blame it on the Alzheimers as usual...
    Look forward to the next one.

    He's already starting early - he's just the right height for whenever he gives me a hug to get his head nestled in my cleavage!
