That is just ONE story I can tell!) but at the end of the day I would help any man (or woman) that was getting beaten no matter what clothes they are wearing.
Well, from my personal experience with dealing with the public in New Zealand I would |have to say they are a bunch of... Oh, that's right somebody's already said that about the Police!!

I thought the road code said three seconds...

and so that's what we taught him.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Interesting to read an account in the Chch press today in the letters to the editor from a eyewitness that differs somewhat slightly from the original report

The main difference was only two drunk people involved and not four and it was over in seconds so there wasn't enough time for anyone else to help and it wasn't needed anyway

Oh, so you've met all the good ones then.

What is it with new people on kiwi biker having all the issues with the police? Is someone advertising this as a site for whinging about the cops?

3 Seconds? Indicating before turning for 3 seconds. I can't recall there being a 3 second rule at stop signs. Once the wheels stop turning you have stopped and thats it as far as I'm concerned. If the road code says different I'll gladly be corrected.

My son had his car (parked on the road outside outside our house) broken into one night. Our dog let everyone in the neigbourhood know something was going on.
Rang the local law and within 3 mins had a blu & white plus dog van doing full search.
I was very impressed with their responce time.

Oh Paul, I've got plenty of reasons not to like the Police. I've even got the Police Complaints Authority to agree with me on a few of those occasions. But I'm not trying to have a big bitch at the 5-0 - else this would be an entire 20+ pages of thread dedicated to my own personal stories. And yeah, it is my side of it. On one complaint to the PCA, the three independent witnesses had one story, and the 7 police involved had 6 different stories. Go figure.

Most of them have jobs to do just like you and I. Just that some of them aren't the finest examples of humanity, much like some of us that they come across.

My bitch with that particular HP guy was that he said one thing, then did another. In my job, you get your arse kicked for that sort of behaviour cos it doesn't reflect well on the company, and it shows a complete lack of integrity. You'd think in a job such as the Police where public opinion is very important, they'd think along the same lines.

And scumdog, one of the uniform HP Commo's that's quite often in the Hutt has a personalised plate, variation on SLOWDN or SLODWN or something similar. I try and be mature about it, but it's just red rag to a bull...

Weird! My mother-in-law has had her car broken into three times in six months out the front of her house in Glen Innes, the police never came for any. The third time she rang the Glen Innes police station after the drivers window was smashed, the dash panels ripped off, the stereo (without its face) stolen and the ignition swich destroyed. The lady police officer she spoke to said they would not send anyone around. My mother-in-law was not happy about that (understandably after the third time!) and asked if they could try and do something about it, she was told to pay to get it salvaged down to the police station, they would have to hold the car for three weeks for forensics and it would still be a waste of time, and was promptly hung up on. In defence of the police my mother-in-law was phoned back a couple of hours later by another policeman who apoligised, but still no cop ever came. Thankfuly her insurance company was kind enough to arrange a salvage truck to come, had the car repaired and back to her within a week.

you see, that's the thing... i've had equally impressive service from them in similar circumstances. And in other circumstances I've had really really good service and I've been really glad they were there.

Just that I've also had the negatives as well to put some balance back into the picture... and sometimes it overbalances...

Look, I agree with anyone that there are a lotta good cops, and they've got a sucky job to do... I think the traffic enforcement is what lets down their public image the most. Usually when they give someone a beating in the cells, that person deserves it. Bust me at twice the speed limit (or more), hey I'll be pissed, but I still deserve it. But busting the average motorist who doesn't drink too much, doesn't even know their car will exceed 120k, doesn't steal and doesn't lie... for doing bugger all over the limit? Not good public relations.

The bitchy thing is bacause I was only visiting Auckland and had to get back for work, I had to transfer the court case to New Plymouth, the only way to transfer a case is to pleed guilty. My lawyer said if I had stayed in Auckland it would have been thrown out of court because the pipe had never been used. Oh and the prick kept the pipe as well!!
