Who ever it was that drove through the stop sign, your whining like a child
You would have known at the time that you was breaking the law, yet you done it anyway. Some people...
Honda, if you want to know where the whining is comming from check your own PC. For the record I haven't recieved a ticket for this or any other offence for at least 20 years!!!! I was simply citing an example of why someone may (justifiably IHMO) feel pissed off with Policing.

OK....... I don't believe, for one minute, that taking such an offence to court would get anything more than a stiffer penalty. And I doubt you do too.

Honda is right.....stop signs are not the issue but if the representatives of the Police are unable to see such offences from a common sense point of view rather than a "the laws the law" point of view...... then maybe that is! :disapint:

    Arrow Well.

Common sense would state that if you dont want a ticket for running a stop sign or whatever, then don't do it
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

So by this definition anyone who's ever knowingly broken the speed limit either wanted a speeding ticket or lacked common sense..... Fair enough, I too, occasionally let the ol' common sense halo slip, but then the reputation of my profession isn't adversely affected when I do.

What about the common sense of the person running the stop sign and subsequently getting a ticket. They usually say that they checked both ways and the way was clear so they just carried on driving through, as if it was a Give Way or Free Turn. But guess what?? They didn't see the bloody cop car sitting there waiting to rain down wrath upon the evil doer. So they didn't have a very bloody good look at all did they! Stupid ejits need to check in at common sense school themselves and they might avoid contributing to to old aunty Helen's slush found. Its really very simple, just open your feckin eyes!!!

Fair point..... unless the cops are running a sting on the intersection, or sitting in an unmarked and parked car or following said offender!

Look Spud, (can I call you Spud or would you prefer Mr Chucka? ) I'm not saying that everyone who ever got a ticket for failing to stop didn't deserve it, I was simply pointing out one situation where some citizens will feel hard done by for being ticked..... and I guess the more tickets that get issued (as per current policy) the more numerous said citizens will become. The more pissed off or victimised average citizen becomes, the more newsworthy (as in bankable) become stories about police cock-ups. I know you can fill the rest in for yourself.

Regardless of what any citizen believes to be right or wrong the road rules are just that, the rules. If you don't think that a particular intersection justifies having a stop sign controlling it and you ignore what you know to be the rules and drive through without stopping then you are knowingly putting yourself in a position where you may receive a ticket.

Same as when you speed, overtake on yellow lines, run a red light - whatever. You choose to break the rules. It is completely innapropriate for people to decide when and where the rules will apply to them. If everyone did that there would be no order on the roads and it would be survival of the biggest.

I'm all for the use of police discretion and consider myself to be fairly liberal in its application, however if you want fairness then the only truely fair method would be to take a black & white approach, ticketing whenever an offence is disclosed. Then surely people wont get pissed off because they know without a shadow of a doubt what the outcome will be should they get nabbed flauting the rules.

People who think they are being victimised by receiving a traffic ticket need to wake up and start taking some responsibility for their own actions. These are the same people who always have someone else to blame when something goes wrong in their lives. They need to take a long walk out to the Hard Creek and have a very long drink.

PVC Tube, HairSpray and Piezo Ignition from a BBQ do the trick just fine - get about 200-300m from one. I can get pretty close to the River Road from the Stop Bank in Upper Hutt over the River
