Perhaps you should have a word to the VMCC, or a similar instituion to find out what is invoved in organising a race meeting. I pretty sure it's a bit more than getting the council to agree to close off a few streets.
Like i said im in the business of doing this stuff everyday so i have the resources and knowledge to push this along.
Im not proposing that we can bring back the Wellington Street race on two wheels or the good old days of Gracefield mate.

What this post is about is: finding out if there are some people out there that would be willing to form a group to organise something in the future.

We would: get together, discuss possibilities, look at what was required, draft a proposal, delegate and begin to work through the issues to a final outcome being an event in the Wellington area that would lift the profile of what we all love doing - riding our bikes.

There is more than enough talent, knowledge, networks and skills within the KB forum to put something together.

Plenty of people reading this thread would say "it cant be done" or "its too hard" well thats there perogative and there welcome to it, others will say "thats a great idea" or "good on ya" and thats also appreciated, others will be negative or positive based on their own agendas, finally there will be the few that think its possible by looking past the problems and get involved if thats you....then let me know.

Ta for your time and comments

    Try on this for size

An Idea I had was to have a small bike swap meet/bucket races. There is a carpark behind Newtown (athletic) Park that isn't used much, which I thought could make a good bucket track, it may need a bit of maintenance though. And I can get the Newtown Community and Cultural Centre for free (I'm the caretaker) for a night or two, where we could have a swap meet and a piss up with a band (or something similar) as it has a 140 seater theatre.

With the day planned so; morning swap meet, afternoon races and evening piss up with entertainment.

If people as serious about this send me a message. I can book the community centre for a meeting (or we could have it at the Office in Newtown).

Confirming those interested in running an event

Hi Guys i have 8 interested people so i will be private messaging all those that have put their hand up.
I have already had a preliminary discussion with the Wellington City Council events branch about doing something along the lines of the Targa Rally on a smaller scale along the lines of a sprint.

If you dont get an email in the next day or so please send one to me we will hopefully be meeting soonish.

    Thumbs up

Nice moves scuze. It would be great to have something like a local time trial event. I'd like to be able to offer practical support like contributing time to assist organising but am maxed out with commitments at the moment. So, this post is all about encouragement.
