Post Running a local event in Wellington

    Heys Guys and Grills

Its such a shame theres no track down here in Wellington and no major racing events like there was a few years ago.
So what do we have for the locals....there are a few things mainly held in the Waiarapa every year and bloody good on the organisers for them.

Is there anyone interested or has anyone got an idea to put on a local event? if so im offering my support and services.
Im a traffic management consultant and own a Company where our business is closing roads doing parades i work with local councils the land transport agency, have a good knowledge of health and safety etc and would like to lend my expertise and resources to a like minded group who wanna get something new going in the greater Wellington area, please no illusions of granduer at the moment we could start off with something smallish and work into something bigger along the way.

    Are you interested?
    Have you already tried?

Let me know im interested in really doing something

PS...If you think its too hard or off the bat dont think it can be done please dont bother posting.

PSS...yes i know im very new to the forums dont hold that gainst me.

    Cheers.

I understand that they used to use the roads around Seaview years ago for racing, Im not certain now how fesable it would be as alot of companies operate 7 days a week, particurly the warehouses and transport companies.
my suggestion would be to use the river bank carpark and some of the streets in the local area.
I dont think that there are any suitable streets in Wellington that are worth using any more, as the city has no longer any real areas that dont either in fringe on urban or comercial areas that operate 7 days a week.
its not so much lets just do it, its how it is sold to the various councils and to the public, and we have a large population of NIMBYs these days that try to make this sort of thing difficult to get off the ground.
    And welcome to KB.

Ya there did use to be a road circuit race in seaview im not thinking on that scale something a wee bit smaller to begin with.
I closed Victoria Street in the CBD for two consecitve weekends for 48hrs if i can do that for a client in the middle of Wellington im sure it can be done somewhere else in the greater Wellington area, the key is finding a suitable area and selling it as an enhancement to tht area.
Dont get me wrong i know it would be difficult but if i can find a serious group of people with the right skills and knowledge and resource we could get something going dont you agree?

One thing i know about being in the business of disrupting business is you can sometimes make it an opportunity for the business your disrupting

Some people out there will read this post and realize that its like pushing shit up hill and that it just "isnt that simple" but it can be acheived just one small step at a time.

If you agree and your heart starts racing a little when you think about it let me know.

What about a hill climb for motorcycles on paekak hill road? that would be easy to manage especially from the BP at Paekak to the summit lookout.
Dont that have them for rally cars up there.

    Does anyone know.

As far as Mount Vic goes it would also be easy from Constable Street up to the Summit a wee bit short though.
Thnks for your offer of support 325rocket.

I know the Miramar peninsula is still used for racing sports cars once a year.

Dude that would be great for a timed sprint from the Miramar Cutting to Karaka Bay easy to manage and i have closed that road on numerous occassions for sporting events this is also feaseable.

    Thanks Nivram.

I commend you for having such ideas, Go that man.
I would love to be part of a Wellington based event for bikes.

Alexandra Road (mount vic) is an awesome event but i fear that bikes would be hammered by the bumps at race speeds.
The Shelly Bay road is very fast and would be fun for a small bike with plenty of power and really good brakes lol. I competed at both events in a very fast Escort and the thrill it gives you is great.

I dont think Paekakariki Hill will be available as the local council and Porirua council didnt allow the Targa Rally to run anything there for a couple of years but the question has to be asked.

As with anything its asking the rite question of the rite person i suppose.

    Cheers Paul.

What i find dealing with the councils is:
they always say no to something like this straight away
then they give you reasons why, and the reasons are generally speaking "they get complaints", "it wll be too disruptive" once you work through their issues and provide mitigations for them they generally come to the party, nearly anything is possible.

As for possible venues for something lets just keep throwing round ideas the ones that wont work will rule themselves out in due process.
Id say one of the problems with paekak Hill road is that the cars rip the road up maybe..less of a problem with bikes maybe.

so your in to help Paul?

There are the Cliffhanger events (sprints and hill climb). Check the details here.

Every year these get bigger. They are really well run and the riders have a blast.

what about a combined bucket/cart meeting somewhere> basicly all you'd need would be a bloody big carpark.

paekakariki hill road is crap, its road surface is terrible. I have always wanted to shut half of the pauhatanui inlet off...the whitby side, the road is very smooth and great for thrashing. Traffic could be diverted through whitby or round the other side of the inlet. That would be my favourite road to make a race. Like a time trial or something.

We already have two active venues for buckets ... don't really think we need another one ... but hey ... anyone can ...
