(i sound so negative today) ... and with all the new barriers around the seaside we can ensure that anyone who does come off gets nicely sliced and diced in time for a second run ... that is on the Whitby side (god I must be grumpy ) ... truth be told I hate having traffic diverted through here its where I live!!

I must have misread the thread starter. I thought the idea was to run an event in the city where the public can watch it.
In auckland we had Taupo/Mt welly and pukie but the Manukau city carpark meeting was still really popular

gymkhana doesn't take up much space, or a stunting competition. Do these sorts of things in the central city on a week night under lights - you would get a huge crowd I would say.

    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

The 2Hot2Handle show was always a bit of fun to ride in..
But the organisers lost money both years it was run.

Piekok Hill would be a bit of fun. I have always wondered what it would be like as a timed event.
So long as all the road kill was taken care of!

BRING BACK THE WELLINGTON STREET RACE!! (but for bikes )

    Thumbs up

OK so there seems to be some interest yay!
Thing is i can go along way to help organise something and i know of two dealerships in Wellington that would probably lend their moral support.
If you want to get on board PM me and maybe a group of us can get together soon to thrash out the bare bones of an event.

Throw caution to the wind if you can commit to something new lend your time in the near future.

I like the idea of timed sprints down grays road, nice and smooth with a few good corners...
Would be awesome if we could get a hill climb up Mt. Vic, would surely draw a good crowd...

I would be happy to help out if this gets off the ground, unfortunately I probably can't help in the planning department!

The Hutt Valley Car Club and maybe some of the other car clubs, run a hill climb up wallaceville hill in Upper Hutt every now and then. Its not very long, I dont know the exact minutes. Koba could probably shed some more light on the subject.
While you sit there liking things just cos' everyone else does, I'll be standing up here keeping it real.

G'day and good to meet you today.

Cliff Hanger run sprints and a hillclimb every year which are pretty good events but there is always a need for more help with those, such as marshals etc. Basic stuff really.

Road races in Wgtn have been closed due to H&S issues as far as I am aware. E.g Gracefield.

Personally I would love a crack at Pie cock knowing there was nothing coming the other way.

    Damn hazy memory....
I know it is in january,
It runs from the Gunclub to just below the lookout, short but a decent stretch of road.
I think think Rex Kirtons farm is the only property directly disprupted, that may be why they do it there.
Spectator opportunites are far from ideal for causual observers but people who are interested enough to venture up the track get decent viewing.

    Photos

There are a fair few car evets around, Port road drags and port road street sprints spring to mind.
The drags draw decent crowds but I would think the area is already pushing it for the number of road closers per year with a fair few 24/7 businesses.

Im guessing more public interest /exposure = better.

Wanganui an Paeroa are both examples of how when this sort of thing get momentum and support it is very feasable.

I really love the idea, keen to help if I can.

I haven't seen you at the track for months so I hardly think you're qualified to decide that there are enough venues for buckets in Wellington.

The second venue is hardly active either, we haven't yet raced there and it's on a trial basis so it could pan out to be a no-go.

Scuzeme...a few of us causally talked about a street race for buckets and streetstock. Not sure where but Seaview could be an option. Any ideas?

Thanks for putting your hand up and offering your services and welcome to KBer.

Way hey, a Wellywood event would be great.

For what it's worth I think a timed sprint type event is OK for riders but lacks a little for spectators. One bike at a time whipping past at much the same speed every 30secs or so is alright, but a series of multi-bike competitive races would just be so much more visually exciting.

Bring back the glory days of street racing, vote 1 for a street circuit.

I think you might be out of luck with organising a proper road race any where in the greater Wellington region. The costs involved (traffic management, EIRs, etc) would be pretty high, and as has been stated H&S would be a major obstacle.

Perhaps you should have a word to the VMCC, or a similar instituion to find out what is invoved in organising a race meeting. I pretty sure it's a bit more than getting the council to agree to close off a few streets.
