    Lowside/loose front end in safety?

    I had an idea recently.
Would anybody be interested in experiencing a front end slide -a rear end slide,a lowside, possibly a minor highside in a safe(er) way?

I'm just trying a concept here.
Heres the idea---right now the wasteland/kids ride area is a deep muddy morass of mud.
Ive got my boys lil peewee 80's,a shineray 150 and a TY80
The idea is head out in the mud at 10km/h and deliberately lean till the bike slides out. brake till the front goes bybyes etc
Worst case senario you get really muddy

Im sure theres reasons it wouldn't work or perhaps isn't applicable but if you lot think its a gfood idea I'd happily set it up one sunday soon

I'd love to see some sort of advanced bike course/experience where you ride a specially prepared bike in a jog that lets you do all of that stuff on a track....similar to the cage skid cars on castors that you can take on a track with varying grip setups in relative safety.

But the mud idea is cheaper

The group I rode with in the early 80's use to do this with an old Trumpy.
We practiced how to get off the bike before hitting anything, how to slide high or low side, what to do when either the front or rear wheel locked.
How to drop it into a roadside ditch and dissapear. ( used to evade following reddish flashing lights)
It was done on a wet grass paddock with hay bales as objects to hit. And a nice muddy field drain along one fence line
The old trumpy had a couple of crash bars welded to the frame so when dropped it could be picked up and used again and again. It eventually threw the primary chain out the top of the casing, so it was tossed into the bexley rubbish tip in chch. It was very bent and diddnt ride straight by then.
To be fair to the bike, It got thrashed for about 3 months solid, leaked oil profusely, was a shit to kick start, but gave a heap of fun to us all.
But it was worth the skills learnt, how to roll , how to climb off at spped, how to flick yourself away from the bike and the object so you didnt hit it, well most of the time.
Would do it again on a moden trail bike with crash bars as a learning curve for sure.

Exactly my thought! I have now experienced the lowside and front end lose on several occasions. Each time I get better at it and I don't even worry about doing it 'on the track' anymore - quite happy to push things now without that fear Good idea Frosty

How about next Friday in lieu of a stag night?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Damn good idea.. the same reason I have been thinking of getting myself a dirt bike again.... always sliding, loosing the front and falling off... not something I like doing now the bikes have got bigger, faster, more expensive and as such to the detriment of my skills (well the few I used to have )

    Can I come!!!

Didn't mad Ronnie Smith do this at Performance Bikes on a ZXR750 back around 1999 - on the tarmac! Round and round at ever increasing angles of lean until something let go!

Definitely a good idea on dirt - little dirt bikes make good trainers for doing that sort of thing - I beleive Freddie Spencers school, or one of a similar ilk, used to put all the riders on XR100s for a couple of days in the dirt, just to get used to the feel of bikes moving around under them and experiencing front and rear end looses in a "safer" environment.
