    A McKenzie Friend

I was interested in Gina's thread. I gather he/she is just an ordinary citizen being put upon by some arsehole cop using his/her 'power' to dump on a biker.

When such happens the likes of Gina are like sticks floating in an ocean storm. They either roll over and take the dump or hire a lawyer.

But there is an alternative. In law one is able to appear in court with a helper. This helper is known as a McKenzie Friend. The MF cannot speak to the court, he/she can only take notes and advise the damned.

If I had been there as Gina's McKenzie Friend, acting on my rather extensive history of self-defended court-hearings, I believe I would have helped her get off the charge.

And so, although Gina's event is now well past, there are others of you, in Auckland, whom I may be able to help. Thus I am prepared to offer my services as a McKenzie Friend to those who have a genuine complaint of malfeasance...that means some arsehole cop has done to you what the cop did to Gina.

I'm not interested in helping any who have attracted 'acceptable' tickets, only those who have copped unreasonable shit.

You must live in Auckland and you must have the balls to do as I ask you to do during your time in court.

I can't guarantee a win, but I will say that I'm good at this stuff.

Better yet. I'll do it for free.

If you'd like me to consider helping you as a McKenzie Friend, email me at dpex@xtra.co.nz. Lay out the charge, then let's see if I can help.

I don't do magic but I sure as hell know my way around the court system.

Alternatively people could hire a lawyer.

Nice gesture, however, as soon as you said "do as I ask you too" I got worried because I seem to recall you saying how it is wrong that MP's push silly laws upon us.....now where is that kettle of mine

Grahameeboy, I take your point. Perhaps I could have stated the matter better. The thing is, to most folk the court can be a 'difficult' experience, especially for those who rarely get there.

Getting a 'good' lawyer will normally cost serious bucks. Getting just 'any' lawyer is not so expensive but normally more expensive than resulting fine after the 'any' lawyer has mumbled pointless inanities.

So having a McKenzie Friend is a support device for folk who don't want to/can't afford a lawyer but need some measure of prior knowledge of what to do or say, what to provide as regards documents, how to present affidavits and discovery docs, and so on.

Over the many long years I have saved a lot of money doing my own court work against recalcitrant debtors, sundry dead-flogs, and the odd ticket.

A top laywer is the best solution if winning at all costs is your wish. A cheap lawyer is a solution if you simply wish to attenuate the resulting fine. A McKenzie Friend is a good solution if you want to battle on your own but need to know how.

So the 'do as i say' missive was directed at the person following the proper process
