And another idea - anybody interested in driving a support vehilce? Someone with s/wagon or van who would prefer to drive than pillion. (this was MrsS's idea!) Or even a few pillions taking turns driving....?
Experience......something you get just after you needed it

I've got a crappy old van, but you won't catch me or the wife driving if during a bike trip of the SI! (Have to check with her before I really offer it

now this is a good idea...IF there are some american/british/italian riders going........

but seriosly... we had a support van go to the brass monkey once... the woman would never do it again as she was all by herself....... felt sorry for her....... honest! so if there was a van there would have to be a really keen person ... or as you say, a couple of driver changers!!!

sounds cool. I'll be interested, will keep tabs on it and see how it all comes together. As I'll be doing a 2~3 weeks trip in SI in march this year...

    OK ...

    I'm thinking outside myself here!

How would this sound for a plan.

I would organise a 4 day top of the south island cruise and help plan the big tour.

The first night of the trip would be at 'Formerly The Blackball Hilton' (you will either love it or hate it) and the aim is to basically take over the joint for the night. We would organise a band and stuff. (I've alredy discussed this with Jane at the BBH) and at $90 dinner bed and breakfast it's a good deal.

It's far enough from Wellie and ChCh to be a fun ride but not rediculous.

Next day the group splits into the long riders and the top riders.

That should appeal to everyone and it would be like our own little rally?

In regards to Ferry crossings - if we book well enough in advance we can get them really cheap. The return crossing for my up and coming trip was only $120- I paid for it back in August. It's just a matter of being organised - which I know you are Paul

I think 1 of my fares is a student one and the other a early bird cheapie one.

Why don't the long riders ride with the top riders, and then go down south afterwards? Otherwise the long riders only get one night of debauchery with the top riders :sly:

Because that could make my plan and the finding of other affordable accomodation for potentially a VERY large group difficult!

You will have to trust me on this Dave but trying to organise 40 riders etc to arrive at ONE place at about the same time is a heroic feat. To do it for 3 nights. Forget it unless you are paying me to do it. It's a bloody nightmare!

The BBH is great because it is so deliciously oddball and left field (in a nice way) that you just have to laugh. It's a real fun place to go but not for the prissy or I want 5 stars or nothing types!

There are several fabulous roads in the area and you will get all the thrills you need. You don't have to trust me on that!
