Seeing as how most of these fab. ideas start with 40 or more raging enthusiastic types that degenerate into about 9 that actually DO go on the trip I'm making the offer that as Chez Scumdog (on SH1) has beds enough for 5 and sofas for 2 plus air-mattresses etc for 2-3 others those that make it down this far are welcome to use the accomadation here, - it's free.(tea bags $10 each and coffee $5 a spoon though!).

    Good off-street parking.

Woodstock rally (West Coast) end of January, Vincent rally (Central Otago) beginning of February and March Hare rally (South Canterbury) beginning of March.

OK - At the rally a few people asked about this.....

Yes I'm still keen and I'll stick something together if thats what people want.

Vicki and I are going to go in October for the Guzzi rally and will spend at least a week, maybe more. We will use that as a test for some of my ideas on what works...

However... Having done this before and going through all the options it has to be said no one trip can see all the south island (unless you have a month and a bunch of $$) so a compromise needs to be made.

First thing to think about is a few key spots to hit and arrange the rest around that....

    in my opinion....

#1 is we allow time for a day off, possibly in ChCh so we can have a night out with the local louts. Riding every day makes people grumpy.

#2 is we try for a night at the Blackball Hilton

#3 is we do at least 2 of the passes (Haast, Arthurs or Lewis)

    #4 we avoid holiday season

#5 You can afford it - bank on at least $120 a day for food / gas and lodgings

#6 We set realistic targets so people without 500bhp and 200mm wheels can keep up..

Also... Think about this. As demo'd by my taste in bikes and music, my opinion on what is cool is a little different to most. I'll do most of the work if you guys can abide by my pace and route (not literally ok, just go like heck where you want and turn up at the daily destination) I'm usually diverting off to look at an old coal mine or some place on the map I have not been yet...

One last thing..... If something goes wrong I expect people to be a bit self reliant and resourceful. If someone gets into trouble I expect the group to act selflesslyand to help get that person out of danger and not just piss off over the horizon.... I'll only do this if people are keen and want to have a little fun without being stupid...

    So

I think I can come up with something entertaining and interesting. Who is still keen?

    Hi mate
I'd be keen. I've only been around the south Island in a van I would luv to do it on the bike.
I'd sick with you mate I'd get buggered about the same time as you.
