I thought living in NZ was expensive

    but not that bad.......

if you tick the most basic boxes you must make $600/week to live in a $200/week (what rent in a pigeon box these days).

Bloody hell - I'm not surprised that the young graduates are asking for high pay. If you want to live there is no choice.

And here i am thinking that i was finding life financially hard but even my first pay as a graduate was less than $600/week.
How they hell do check out operators live these days.

I pay $3,076 AUD per month for my flat in Melbourne (two bedrooms on the boundary of the CBD). I live there on my own.

This is $3,789.69 NZD at today's rates, or $45,476.28 NZD per year.

This is just for the rent. Utilities and all other costs are on top.

That's an interesting site.... we've had friends who've been living in the UK long term move back home and tell us that the cost of living seems really high over there....we're keen to move back withing the next couple of years so it is interesting to see the stats.

It's all relative though I suppose....

For instance, we bought a house in London last year and converting what we paid for it into NZ$ we paid equivalent of $686406.00 for it!!! This is for a 3 bedroom (one that you could hardly swing a cat in!) mid terrace with a postage stamp of a garden!!! On the other hand, the house that we bought in Wellingon in 1994 (and rent out), at todays rough market valuation works out to about 167000.00 UK pounds and it is on a 1/4 acre with 5 bedrooms!

No wonder the British are flocking there.....Selling up their little terraced houses and moving into mansions!

I can't wait to live back in NZ again!

Therein my son lies the answer to how you can live on $415pw.
Best thing I ever did was leave the expensive kitchen appliance.
Far cheaper to wash your own dishes.
