Thumbs up Pics from Nelson Bike Show 14.9.08

Twas a stunning day for bikes, bike riding and bike shows, so a great turn out was had, and plenty of nice machinery on display. Such a nice day, I took the long way from Nelson back to Tahuna - via St Arnaud/Kawatiri, discovered some 3.5 km long straights, which should be good for 200 klicks if closed off.

A tasty pint at the Belgrove Pub on the way home, life is good.........

Couldn't have picked a better weekend for it !
Shit its been a long while since i've ridden those roads down there, bloody shame we've had to cancell the munroe challenge for this year !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

    Funny you should say that...

    Cheers Sinfull,

Bert Munro's adopted Brother, JB Munro, was there giving some talks and sharing an early Roger Donaldson video featuring the 'real' Bert - he had a couple of great little stories about the man...........

...........apparently every day he rode his bike to work, then every night rode it to a dance. One weekend after riding home from a speed trial
, and in need of a gasket, he stopped in at a dance hall on the chance that someone there might have such a thing. He walked in to the hall foyer, saw a Gents felt hat hanging up, whipped the top off it, and put it back, and kept on riding!!.....

    Could do better

Well I went too and to tell the truth I was a little unimpressed. The day was perfect after all the bloody rain we have been having, and the place was packed - parking was at a premuim. I went to see the classics and vintage bikes and there weren't a lot to see - a sparse collection of british clunkers in the Granary and some interesting bikes in the octagonal building including a Maico with a TT500 motor that looked a treat. To be fair there were a lot of late model sports bikes, Ducatis and the like - and loads of Harleys but there were also Lifan-type rubbish and cheap scooters etc. There were bugger all dirt bikes and apart from that tasty XT500 parked outside the pub there weren't nearly enough thumpers on display. I will always go to every motorcycle show within driving distance but I was left thinking there must be a lot more bikes in Nelson that deserve to be shown. There were more bikes in the carpark than on display and some of them were interesting, still I can't wait until the Stoke hall bike show in January...
