Wellington Wednesday Night Cruisy Summer Rides -- 2008/09

The first "official" ride will be Wednesday 1 October.

The weather usually has a strong influence on whether people turn up to ride and where they decide to ride to.

Whoever is at the Elephant Pond at 6:30pm on any given Wednesday will be able to influence that evening's proceedings.

Based on past experience we have never stopped at Rimutex. Obviously if we are riding past people are welcome to join in but half the time we dont go past there at all.

Its not that far from Rimutex to Avalon and you'll be travelling the opposite way to all the traffic so it wont take long. Better than me coming from CBD at least.

The default ride is often over the Rimutakas to either the Tin Hut at Tauherenikau or the Red Pub in Featherston. But a final decision about destination is generally left to a group consensus prior to departure. Weather and road conditions on the Hill, combined with a Group Vibe, mean other destinations and routes are sometimes chosen.

Some of the 'other' destinations we have used in previous years are
-Over Paekak Hill to the Waterfront Bar at Raumati
-To the carpark at the top of Paekak Hill and back around Greys Rd to the Sandbar at Mana.
-Over Haywards, around Pauatahanui inlet, down to J'ville and over Ohariu Valley to Makara Beach then back to the Quiet Lady pub in Karori
-Over the hill to Wainui and out to the coast then back to the Parrot and Jigger in Petone.
Usually the pubs we chose have outside tables, where we normally sit Anybody under 18 welcome, someone will get you a coke or whatever.

It's Happened. Daylight Saving is here (needed that extra hour's sleep after a day at the track too!) which means it's THIS Wednesday night. Cool except the weather isn't looking flash and I won't be there Meteorology 5 requires my attendance - I'd rather be biking.

Thanks for the replies people.... Will probably get some more miles under my belt then tackle a group ride with you and the 'takas. I would rather do it in the dry for the first time. NEed to build the confidence in the wet....

Just be there ! Even if ya ride alone to the destination, the social side of riding is half the fun (ok ok a third)

Dont know bout you mate but the extra hour of sunlight, gives me sunburn, wears my tires out quicker, fuel consumption goes up, housework don't seem to happen, Its great !

My wife and i are keen to come along for the wednesday rides.

Will give this wednesday 1st oct a miss... bikes going in for new sator fitting.

But wednesday 8th oct we'll be there...
