Political correctness is a lot of crap, and anything to sway the system back to reality has got to be good for us aint it?

As you will read from many here that's the only way to get a balance. Who cares who starts the discussion to find middle ground you need discussion.
Bloody good comment mate, would have given you another tick but the system wouldn't let me!

Maybe you could ask an Asian person what they might find offensive about jokes like this.

I've a Pakistani friend who found the jokes hilarious and took great delight in thinking that people may consider her fellow country "persons" as diligent, conscientious and hardworking - but then again that's a single persons opinion. Another Pakistani may then be offended. So harking back to my previous comment, isn't being PC subjective?

Politically incorrect, but not offensive. Where are the bloody straws mate?

Yes it is, BUT does that mean we shouldn't be concerned if we offend people or not.

For me it's about respect for people as individuals and not making assumptions based on ethicity, gender or age.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Merely referring to someone ethnicity in a joke and generalising, arguably in a positive light, shouldn't, in my mind at least, be deemed offensive. If it was a joke that inferred that the Welsh enjoyed carnal pleasure with sheep, and there's plenty of those about, then I personally find this boring (I haven't heard a new one since I was a kid) and mildly offensive, because it infers that Welsh people conduct illegal, unsavoury, sexual acts with sheep. But in the UK people get away with such comments and crap jokes all the time, even on TV, even famous so called “personalities”. But heaven forbid the joke was based on so called ethnic minorities. Then the PC brigagde would be hanging banners from the purps arses.

There's a disparity here, and it really gets up my nose.

So my unssucessful application to become a Communications Advisor for the Women's Affairs Bureau wasn't influenced in any way by me being a "white, middle class, middle aged, bald, straight as an arrow male then"?

That phrase is a direct quote from a panel member at the second interview. The PC thing, and the sexism thing does swing both ways. The only difference is that there is no way an employment court would touch a complaint from me with a barge pole.

Mind you, I've been rejected from so many applications for jobs, bands, plays, TV shows, etc, that I just go, "Meh", and continue on. Maybe more people need to be personally responsible, instead of worrying about how fair life is for other people.

Where's the disparity? You lost me sorry (or it could be that I've had too many coffees).

Oh and how can making fun of someone because of their ethnicity be positive?

You've got quite an elegant turn of phrase at times BK
"Not one day that we are here on this earth has been promised to us, so make the most of every day as if it was your last, and every breath ,as if it were the same"
