Often wondered if snake would taste similar to eel which i find very tasty.

I've never tried eel actually! Nor haggis, or tongue...have tried snails but other than that and black pudding and crocodile (on a pizza...one red dog) I haven't had anything else 'exotic'.

I recall a girlfriend talking about a restuarant somewhere in AKL that used to serve up sea cucumner - she said it was as foul as it looked.

Besides, wot's wrong with mutton, eh? Good tasty winter food, that.

Eel is bloody nice, either fresh, smoked, or made in to pate. Silver belly ones are better from clean running water e.g rivers)

Buy eel at most Japanese restaurants and food stalls. Its called Unagi Don. Very tasty, but a bit on the expensive side (you don't get much meat).
