we had a issue and used a dehumidfier and it caused more problems than good (the underlay wont dry in time and will rot) - Get a carpet blower as linked to above, pull up the carpet at the end an let it blow over under the carpet but above the underlay.

    Good luck.

    +1.

Pull up the carpet to let it dry if there is underlay. Underlay in the garage? I bet Col's got curtains in his room too.

You need heat, more than dry air too.

Tell her that you need to keep an eye on the wall framing. "Leaky building syndrome" likes to attack these areas...

Fark, who pays your power bill? A dehumidifier running 24/7 would cost a packet.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Not at all. Mine runs nightly from 12pm to 8am then from 11am to 5pm.

They're normally only 250W for the compressor and 30W for the fan but the compressor doesn't run continuously - you're lucky if the compressor is running more than 40% of the time. Which means to run it 24/7 for 28 days is 87kWh or about $16/mth. You save more than that in lower heating costs from the dry air and furnishings.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
