Or the addition of an IF frequency used to amplify an incoming signal. In modern times this is around 455KHz. This could be used to amplify the AM portion of the incoming RF (radar signal) in order to improve detection and filtration.

Don't know where you got that about Escorts. My X50 _never_ falses on someone else's detector. My old Uniden LRS did it all the time.

Ok. I meant to say Escorts and Unidens are IMO (after reading reviews over the years) the worst. I'm amazed that you say that you've never had your Escort go off for no obvious reason. I know of at least two guys, and have owned one myself so i can confirm first hand, that say the bloody thing 'falses' all the time. Be it because of garage openers, proximity detectors and other detectors. If yours never does then I'd say you're lucky.
