No doubt that somewhere on this amazing site there is a list of cool rides, but I'm damned if I can find it. So, I thought that maybe someone could direct me to such a thread; if it exists.

If it doesn't, then maybe a cool-rides list could be created. Notwithstanding, many non-jafas might appreciate a heads-up for cool Auckland rides.

Obviously, there are some runs, like from SH16 out of Helensville to Wellsford, and the Old North Rd to Coatesville runs, which are a well known delight, but here's a few (with extra draw-cards) you might not know about.

1. The Auck/Miranda/Kawakawa Bay is a goody. But the draw-card is the oyster soup at the Kawakawa Bay Oyster factory. Unbelievable! Except the dumb buggers don't supply bread, so take your own.

2. Turn off SH16 to Port Albert. Short but nice run. End up at the wharf. The draw-card is the sound of utter silence.

3. Turn right after Wellsford, to Mangawhai, then all the way through to Waipu. Then back up SH1.

The draw-cards are two. The run is just excellent and the Top Of The Hill cafe tops it off. Awesome food and an unbelievable view. I did this run today. Wicked.

Watch close for cops on the run up the hill to the cafe. They have some cute hiding places with radar working on 'away' traffic. I was following a cage rabbit who didn't spot the cop. I did. The cager got the bill. I throbbed past look quite innocent. :--))

4. Lone Kauri Rd down to Karekare Beach. Now that's hard work, but fun. :--))

And don't forget; in Helensville, on the left, halfway up the hill past Countdown, is the maker of the best damned fried chicken in the world. I know this. I'm a fried-chicken addict.

So, there's a few ideas. Anyone want to add? Don't forget the draw-card. It could be an eatery, a view, or just a wizzer of a road.
