Question Who's had a door opened at them whilst riding?

Now I can understand car doors opening in 50K areas but today as I was riding back to Taupo from Manfeild through the nice twisty way (100K area), I was mid corner when the back door opened in an on coming car, RIGHT as I was beside it. If I had of been another half a meter or so to the inside I would of been taken out.

So what I'd like to know is if this happens often or it was just a freak mistake of the person in the back seat... Your opinions/stories?

Have not had it whilst riding
But towing a trailer past a car sales yard, Honda prelude opens door, trailer collects door, driver sits there watching door bend nicely into front fender, and distroy the front bumper lights etc
    I kept on truckin......didnt feel a thing.

Yes People in rear passenger seats of cars never bother to look. They even get pedestrians and bend cars parked beside them.

Wow! That's gotta freak you out a bit! I reckon it would depend on several things whether it was purposeful or not... Were you riding towards them or after following them were you passing them?

I had some clown do this on the Hutt Motorway while I was splitting about four years ago.

Slammed on the brakes and just managed to stop in time.

I got off the bike to argue it out with the driver. Unfortunately for him two cars behind was mufti police car who saw everything.

His excuse? "Bloody motorcyclists think they own the road. I get sick and tired waiting in traffic and these smart-arses just ride down the middle. I thought I'd give him a taste of having to wait."

Idiot. Cop did him for careless use of a motor vehicle.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Not really. I wouldn't have been doing more than 30km/hr at the time. Worst that would have happened would have been a lot of broken fairings.

dirty bastards... I had a half brick thrown at me once, square in the chest.
Too damn winded to turn around, follow them and get the number plate, but I suspect that is the best solution.

SHit, that could fricken kill you! On coming at 50kmh + 50kmh in the other direction = 100kmh impact speed. That would have been very nasty!!!!

Sorry, I was reacting to Meeky_Mouse's first post about having the door of an oncoming car opened at her in a 100k zone. attempted murder might still be incorrect, whoever opened the door probably either made a mistake or was just trying to scare, but if she hit it it could have been serious.
