    Almost had enough

Right...my bike shat itself AGAIN....relatively minor, my throttle cable snapped, though I cant get another till monday
No weekend riding for me makes me very unhappy!
Another RGV has come up, I would have to get a loan (granted one at 10.9% no repayments till i finish school) to cover the cost....
its mint, 1991 17,000km on it....mint fairings (mine are shit)
I have poured so much god dam money into mine fixing shit cos its basically falling to pieces...
Should I just say no more money! thats enough....and get a little extra for a way nicer bike thats less likely to completely fall to pieces on me?
    What y'all reckon?

If you've already poured money into ya current ride (unless it really is poked) i'd still stick with it,at least you know it's history. You will be taking another gamble with this new rgv,and could be lookn at a top end rebuild soon. You're comment about four strokes is spot-on and congrats for choos'n to ride a two stroke, they are a demanding mistress but well worth the ride.

Especially considering second hand RGV's will all no doubt have had the tits thrashed off them already. I' dbe more inclined to give the bike I've got a damn good going over and stick with it - but that all depends on just how fucked it actually is.

    My current one....
    58,000km
    Things that have been done:
    New (2nd hand) bottom end/gearbox (1990)
    Cylinders from Late Vj22
Old K heads...a bit more compression
    Pro-X piston and rings
    New top end bearings
    Fresh 2nd hand power valves
    Heavy duty clutch
Throttle, oil pump and speedo cable
    carbs new needle jets
    new rear brake pads
A whole lot of electrics that couldnt be done so I had to pay someone to do them
    New chain and sprockets
One of the fairings is a piece of shit but to be honest I would rather spend all my money on fixing shit that makes it go rather than have it look pretty
It might have been thrashed but with only 17,000km its gonna be way less likely to be falling to pieces than my current one...but yes I guess I will know its history a bit better

Sorry Rach but whinging about a snapped throttle cable is a burning offence !!!

Hard call, sounds to me like you've just about rebuilt the bike ! Still on ya restricted ?

Couple of 2ND bits ya mentioned there but if whoever did yr rebuilding knows their stuff you may only now be looking at steering head and swing arm to complete the ensemble
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Hmmm, if you are annoyed by the failings of your current RGV250, I would advise against getting another. Great fun bikes, but they always have problems. Always fouling plugs, breaking cables, and mechanical issues like you mentioned.

I've got a CBR250RR for sale for $5g. Might be out of your price range, and the power delivery will feel weird to start with, but I can get it around the track quicker than 90% of RGV riders. Only raced this one once. I'm living in Melbourne at the moment and it's in NZ. Got the best tyres money can buy on it. It's got about 35,000 k's. They are good for 100,000k's.

I'll be back in early december if you are interested send me a pm and I'll give you my details. It's black and grey with red wheels.

Any bike can be a lemon, but given what you've had done to this one already, I'd be inclined to keep it.

Sounds to me like you should be looking for one with a fucked engine, since that's the best bit on yours.

www.rgvspares.com will have nearly anything you want by the way.

I've owned a GIXXER thou, and my RGV is more fun on the twisty bits, GO THE MIGHTY RGV!!!

Burning eh? haha its not so much the throttle cable thats the issue its just always off the road.
Yeah I know its what they do, I dont mind doing work on it, for the fun I get out of it, but its ALL the time. And being a student never helps.
But I love it and I dont think think I will be giving up on RGV's just yet
Just thinking whether it may be better to get one that is got a bit more life in it.
No still learners unfortunately...I think I can get 6R in another month.
