    OK: About that SV tyre rule?

    I've heard that there are some people running 180-190's on the rear of their Pro Twins bike....

    ....Now, what advantage does that have over running the manufacturers recommended 160 tyre??

    DO they do it because they're better tires availible in the 180's???

    I have one regional race left, and as I've mentioned before I'm always struggling for grip on the SV (Poss a riding error). Anyway, I've thought of trying the Dunlop 211(N Tech), as opposed to the UK 209. The 211 doesn't come in 160.

    Has anyone run this tire succesfully on an SV??? If so, what pressure do you run?? IE: Do you make it higher so that it doesn't move around??

    Are you planning on running any national Championship Meetings ? I think they'll be enforcing the "Original Tyre size" rule this year, which means 160 rear's only. The 180 and 190 are mostly being used out of convenience and misunderstanding. It's easy to get the big tyres in super sticky compounds, and REAL easy to get used ones that the 600 racers have sucked the life out of (don't buy them !),but they can mess with the bike in ways most people don't think of. Big tyres pull around when fitted to rims smaller than they were designed for, and actually REDUCE the size of the contact patch, and can reduce grip to go with it. I think the SV650 is a relatively narrow rim from memory.They also certainly make the bike steer worse mid turn, as well as being more difficult to keep heat in. Get some nice sticky 160's for the rear - check out how fast Jarrod Wintle was going last meeting at Manfeild on his Protwin on a 120/70 front and 160/60 rear, and he got about 100 laps out of the rear tyre !

    As I understand it, they do it because the supply of 160's here is limited and at times unreliable. Can't help you with the other questions sorry.

    Under MNZ rules Pro Twin rear tyres can be any width until Jan 1st when the NEW rule comes in. It's all detailed on the MNZ site, along with other Pro Twin changes /"clarifications"

    Yeah it's a shame, as I tried the 190 N tec last weekend t our last regional round for the season. I've tried all the Dunlop and Pirelli 160's and none felt as planted as the N tec 211. I normally have to put on a new set for the finals, but I ran the old practice tires I was usinig and won two out of two races and set a lap record in slightly damp conditions....... There's obviously an advantage to running the newer technology tire (even if it is availible in a size too big)..... It's a shame MNZ don't see the benefit to racing in NZ by allowing these tires.............

    ......Not that it's any better here for the nationals, as we have an out of date spec Pirelli tire to use.

    .....Maybe Dunlop will make the same technology in a 160 som etime in the future??? Here's hoping for all the Pro Twin riders.

    Try Continental Race Attack, the carcase and compound are very new technology, and there are 160's around

    and they last for ages.
    And grip really well
    Blindspott are back as Blacklist check them out
