A few guys have already said this, but you can never hear this enough. Go around sum corners in ya 250! Dont be in too much of a rush for ya big bike, you'll probably find that you don't know shit on how to really handle a bike when you eventually get ya litre or 600 (even though you think you're Rossi now, I know I sure did), and probably wish you pushed harder on ya 250 where the consequences aren't as LIFE THREATENING!

Get a Monster Energy sticker kit, that'll be good for about 15hp.
Yoshimura slipon +1.5hp
K&N Airfilter + 1
Re-jet the carb + 1hp
Rim stickers + 2hp per rim done

Then a nice cup of HTFU so you can deal with being on a slow ass 250 for the next 18mths.

Of course, you could get in touch with a mentor and learn some skills that might save your ass, instead of just 'going fast'.

i would'nt bother mucking around trying to get more hp out of your ninja, chance's are somthing may fuck out and void your warranty. just ride it and enjoy it, biuld up some skill's for when you can get a bigger bike. and if you are looking at a zx10r for your next bike..... practice as much as you can now, because there a completly different animal

I get more fun from riding a bike to it's limit than from having tonnes of power and going extremely fast. I've had tonnes of fun on NXR125's (my courier bike) and RGV250s and the most fun I ever had was on my CBR250RR... lots of track time The bigger bikes weren't as fun because you do have to hold back a lot more, and they cost a fortune in tyres. Cherish your 250. They are great bikes.

Don't bother trying to mod them, the factories did a great job of making them the perfect mix of reliable and screaming.

I'm cleaning up over here in Aussie on my standard (and it's not even running very well) CBR250, won races at philip Island on it. Bought it as a write off for $2500. The main thing that makes me better, braking and corners. Get them right first, you make up tonnes of ground getting those two right, the other guys have modified the crap out of their bikes, to give them a minimal advantage, and no excuse when they lose :P

License's dont stop you getting bigger bikes.

Indeed- license's do not stop you. Ride sensibly and learn to use your mirrors at every chance, wear proper, full gear and act responsibly and you won't have any trouble. Easier said than done.

Had less than a week on a 250 and then spent rest of learners on a VFR400 NC30 and it taught me to be fucking sensible on the roads... the shocking price of 250cc bikes was the motive and i've saved a lot of money as a result. full gear all the time, 50k all the time but boy was all the conservative riding worth it when you get free from the city and suburbian areas. Not everyone can hack it though, stay off of it if you truly can't stick to 50k all the time. No? Thought not... you'll get yourself in deep shit if you honestly can't do that. deep shit.

I agree with the others... stop worrying about straight line speed and read some theory on cornering/ braking and start applying that to some good corners... what i did was work up to go around bends no slower than the speed limit. Also in the wet... good fun and useful too. corners and braking is where all the fun is at......and finding the limits. Like the guy above said- it's way more fun getting the limits out of a machine than having a machine you can't ride properly. it's great aiming to improve your technique and very fun to see the results...

yea, but the bikes only 4 weeks old, I dont have 20k to buy the zx10 i want or even 16k for a cbr600.

OK, first of all, that bike is TIGHT and therefore down on power. It may also be 'detuned' until the first service (if they still do that on some models). Give it a chance. You need the saddle time anyway.

Oh yeah and you can say goodbye to your warranty.

whats the fine, if i get pulled over on a liter bike on my learners?? I wouldnt be able to get insurance either, its a hell of a risk buying a bigger bike, the temptation would be too much for me. I bet I would be pulled over doing like 250+on a bigger bike

Plenty of fun to be had on the 250's mate. No need to modify, any gains are marginal. Maximum gain to be had of about 10% without massive allround mods. In short don't bother, or if you get desperate. I've got a CBR250RR for sale, best tyres money can buy on it. PM me if interested. Otherwise I'll be racing it when I get back to NZ.
