    WTF nvidia 7600

my laptops having issues, the only way i can turn it on outside of safe mode is by disabling my video card, this isnt exactly desirable. even with it off (or in safe mode) my screen is covered with all these pink dashes (but not on dark parts of pictures)

    any ideas?

    That sucks.

It's definately a hardware problem. If you are comfy ripping into expensive electronics get the chipset and memory blocks on the video card exposed. There should be a heatsink on the chipset and sometimes the memory blocks. If the heatsinks get dislodged that can happen. Memory gets hot and the transistors start blinking out and dropping bits of data.

It could also be an issue with the video card itself coming dislodged from the socket on the motherboard. Ever play old school Nintendo games? If you did I'm sure that pattern looks kinda familiar. Make sure the board hasn't started to work loose from the motherboard and that no debris has found a way into the contacts.

Artifacts like that are usually a result of heat or just a rooted card, check the card temps and make sure the fan is not clogged with dust

Is it just that your photo is a mirror image or is your whole screen coming up in mirror image of what it's supposed to be?

Now THAT's a really odd problem....
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

Boot any Desktop Linux CD on it and see what it says.

Might not be a hardware fault.. check your latest updates for video drivers... the dreaded Auto update might just have killed your video off. Also try checking your hardware acceleration settings (might also have changed after an update).

If you don't know how to check your update schedule, drop me a PM.

Hardware usually fails outright and you wouldn't be able to get it to run, even at lower res etc.... it could be but I would suspect drivers first and foremost

    Cheers.

Ooops just noticed the "my screen is covered with all these pink dashes".... that is not a good sign unless you have a seating problem with the card

if its a laptop its won't have a separate video card or even a socket mounted (ie repluggable) video controller chip. New motherboard time.
There is the off chance that the heatsink has been dislodged.
    What brand/model of lappie?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Send it in for repair, and not to anyone who suggested the video "card" has come loose.

Widespread problems reported (millions) with recent nvidia laptop chipsets, nvidia have even acknowledged they shipped faulty hardware.

Turns out you're gay, the video card was the first thing to notice and has just taken appropriate action. Either that or you've been sinbinned on KB and given the pink screen, just that it's managed to filter through on to the rest of your computer.

took it apart last night took all the heatsinks out, removed the video chip (yes it has one which plugs onto the board) and replaced everything, removed a lot of dust lol and the fan works alot better now, but still has the lines etc. the laptop is a zepto 6214W
