    Trying to clarify issues surrounding

Was just watching One news and the article on efforts to improve and clarify issues around the reporting of rape crimes and how they are dealt with in court. What I can't work out is why, with a topic as potentially inflammatory as this, did they show a parade of women's backsides (anonymous women going about their business down the road) in lowriding jeans or at least with that wee band of bare flesh above the jeans? Was there some kind of hidden or subliminal message in that? Crikey, I know that news items frequently show examples of sections of the population being referred to in their article e.g. obese/overweight, but focusing of female derrieres????????? Did I miss something obvious?

Um, yeah. What did you expect them to use as visuals for the voiceover? Soothing scenes of tropical marine fauna?

It's because the media is driven by money-grabbing cretins who care nothing but for the sale of theie 'tomorrows fish'n'chip wrappers'....the truth and facts involved are waaaay in the background. (Unless it will improve sales).

Yeah I noticed the nice girly bums and thought it was a bit inappropriate even though I guess there is a link to the subject.
What really struck me though was the statement that 9 out of 10 sexual assaults are not reported. How do they know how many unreported assaults there are if they're not reported?! (Sorry ... understanding statistics is part of my job)

No worries about the statistical shortfall - the number of reported sexual assaults which are completely fabricated by the complainant cancel it out.

(Yes, I'm aware that that makes no sense whatsoever.)

You old cynic, you! Fancy suggesting that sales and ratings are at the top of the media agenda... How could you say such a thing...?

My guess would be, that they (the film makers) wanted to inject an amount of humanity into the story...

Now, rather than have a bunch of womens faces paraded across the screen, and 4 million tired/pissed Kiwis thinking they were being shown past rape victims, they candidly showed bottoms instead.

I expect if they had shown faces, there was always the chance a past rape victim may have seen herself on the goggle box and relived a particularly hard time in her life.

I dunno, I think that's what I'm trying to say - it's bloody early and the pain pills ain't working yet.

Personally I think its a great idea to show girls bums, no matter what the story.

In today's news the markets once again took a massive dive, now here's some girls bums.

    woohoooo.
