Well Waimumu's been and gone and what a laugh.

Left Friday at 645, and all was good, got a bit cold through Rox, so threw my weather gear on, and it rained a little later, so that was good timing. Blimey you can tell its getting warm, eh, the bugs were out in their thousands, and most committed suicide on my visor, to the point where it was getting a bit difficult to see through the carcases!!

Anyway when it did rain, I thought great it'll wash the bugs off, but 25 drops or less later, (all of which stuck to my visor), I couldn't see a thing and by now it was dark, and I was 5k from Gore, I did th worst thing and brushed my glove over the visor, so that made it impossible to see a thing, so wobbled to a stop and took the helmet off to wipe on some grass.

Only it wasn't just grass it was cow shit I amanged to wipe it in, by the time I got to the rally site I was laughing my head off over it all, but set up camp and got to the beer tent.

For the first time met a hostile biker, who was a complete and utter wanker, from that area, so deafed him the rest of the weekend.

Saturday was the foulest weather and was started to get concerned the rally would be a washout, but shedloads suddenly appeared and what a laugh.

Had a roast dinner with my mate in his house bus, with scummy, cb, zaria and nighthawk who were cordially invited by Top Geezer Alan, and 2 other mates joined us as well, so there were 8 of us in his bus, It was lovely, and with his coal fire going, it was snuggly and warm. Thank you so much Alan, you're a star mate.

The whole night was a hoot, the girls from the wet t and guys from the wet jock, (nice tackle Glen!!) then got to do some jelly wrestling with dosh in the jelly, fuck it was hilarious.

The bands again were fantastic

Got to bed an hour ealier than the previous night, so it was 3.30!!

Sunday was the best weather, so kicked back with a couple of dudes from Dunedin, we cooked breakky on our burners, and then KFC in Gore.....alcohol breads hunger eh?

And then said tara to them, before heading home, the ride home was wicked, sunshine galore, sorted myself a deal at Stu's Flyshop, did a pint at the wonderful Garston pub, and home by 430.

What a fun weekend.

Well CB had a go at posting some pics but the effinginternet gods laughed at her efforts and her message disappeared into internet ether....TWICE!!!.

Anyhoo she has taken the pip with the internet so I'll have a shot.

CB and I rode down about midday Sat in THE most diabolical hurricane strength winds I have ridden in - not very often you can ride around a left-hand sweeper while leaning to the right.

Got down to Gorrre and had lunch with NightHawk and Xaria then headed out to the rally to be greeted by the sight of flattened tents etc, however what a site it was - flat, nice length of grass to make camping comfortable, massive marquee (surrounded by stock-trucks to stop the wind from flattening it) and toilets like you wouldn't believe - real porcelain 'thrones', clean, well lit and no smell PLUS good hand-washing facilities.

M.A.T.E.S. club owns the toilets, marquee and all the other gear needed for a rally, they also ran a burnout comp. a tractor pull, bike/tit/wet-jock contest, and engine blow (in an old japa cage) and the meals/catering was top-notch, all in all it is a rally well worth attending if you get a chance, sadly due to extreme winds and soft-cocks numbers were down to what was expected.

Met all the usual rally crowd, drank a bit, listened to a bit of shit being talked etc and did a Dangerous (bed before mid-night)

This morning we all woke up surprisingly fine, the wind had dropped and the sun was out so Xaria headed back to Dunners while Nighthawk, CB and I headed home via the Catlins Coastal route whereupon I fine a way to cure constipation - strong tail wind meant I went into a tight left-hander carrying too much speed, I was in too high a gear and didn't 'read' the corner well - end result was I started crossing the centre-line and cranked on a bit more lean-angle, next thing bits of the bike started scraping and I lost my cool and stood the bike up a tad which resulted in crossing to the wrong side of the road even further - couldn't see any oncoming traffic but that's because the left-bend lead straight into a right-hand bend I couldn't see around. however I manged to regain the correct side of the road safely and realised I had been very, very lucky, it was one of the worst 'near-offs' I had been in for a long time.

The weather forecast was for Friday fine Saturday wind and showers, sunday fine... So we decided at the last moment to actually go on the Friday evening, our gear was already packed but the actual bikes weren't, so quickly packed the bikes, filled with gas and we were gone.

Stopped in at Ches Scumdog's on the way through Balclutha, for 5, 10 minutes, and organised to met them in Gore on the Saturday morning at mid day at the Green Room cafe.

Friday night was pretty good, the weather was great, the drum fires were going, and company was well rally company... every stranger and his dog... got to bed about 4:30...

Around 6:00ish 06:30 in the morning the wind came up and the at just after 07:00 the first of many showers started for the day... however it was forecast so I can't complain. Couple of tents were blown over and the Marque at the gate was also ripped and they were in the process of taking it down. Our tent and spot, although we noticed the wind seemed ok we had tree's bushes behind us that made a pretty good wind break.

Up bright an early the next morning... well 10:00 o'clockish. Had my morning coffee, and we decided to go into Gore a little early. It was windy but no problem we just took our time. Into Gore and parked up, then had a look around some shops to fill in time.

Tom and Chrissie were a little late but we put that down to the wind... when the arrived, they didn't realise how long it actually took them, but yup the wind was a major factor. Quick bite to eat, and off to liquor land to get a few more alcoholic beverages and then back to the site to set up Chrissie and Tom's tent.

There was an organised ride, but as we were meeting Tom and Chrissie we missed the ride.

Just as we got there and were about to pitch tent a shower came through, and Scumdog and is years of wisdom decided to clamber into our tent till it past, and we couldn't get past his size 9 clob hoppers, leaving very little room for anyone else to get in... we should have bought the big tent... anyway it past and we pitched their tent and off to the beer tent...

The afternoon activities including the normal, drinking, bike show, talking shyte, burn out (which surprised me how many of the harley fellas entered.) drinking, Tractor Pull, car burn out, which you guess how long it takes to blow the car motor by siting there at full rev... was about 12 something minutes, then there was more drinking, and more talking shyte. With the odd passing shower and the winds slowly dying out. Met up with WolfNZ, and a few peps I have met at other rallies.

Small group of us were invited to have Tea on Allan's bus, which was great, and then on into the night with the prizes, drinking, the tat show, talking shyte and the draw for the bike raffle, and the wet carboard show???? wet jock,music, drinking shyte being past, more drinking falling over, and more music...

Next morning, the wind had gone from the site, and hadn't rained for ages. SD, and Chrissie were talking about going through the Catlins, and I decided I would join them, While Xaria decided she would happily plod on home straight up SH1 as she had things to do. The ride through the Catlins was great though the wind had returned. We stopped at the lookout and man it was blowing a gale there, didn't really want to leave the bike just in case... The on into Papatowai to visit DaffyD and then Owaka for lunch.

Back on the road, and up to Balclutha for fuel and to say our ... see you at the "Magpie" I headed north up SH1 to Dunedin. Coming into Allanton, was being flashed heaps, so checked my speed... about one KM out of Allenton there had been an accident, and it must have only just happened as there was no emergancy vehicles, however there was heaps of helping hands so I continued...saw the emergency vehicles ambo, fire, heading out to it when I got to East Taieri, and the boys in Blue coming down the Motorway.

The MATES Rally... well, they have the best setup, the toilet trailer... (which they didn't have last year) with real flushing loos, not port-a-loo's... the food area is like being in at the average cafe/restaurant. The food was great, pig on the spit with veges a full meal, whitebait, even salad, pies chippy's, nacho's, coffee, just anything you would expect. The bar marquee had all the standard drinks and the overall prizes were great.

Each year prepay go into a draw to win the caravan for next year. You win the free entry for the following year, the use of the caravan and meals.

THe MATES MC put up a huge effort, and the word out there is they will be putting more into the site for next year. I'll definitely be back as it is becoming one of my favorites...

And on the way home on the Catlins coastal route we stopped at Florence Hill while I shook the dung out of me leathers, it appeared there after over-cooking the corner I mentioned, Nighthawk had to hang onto his scoot to stop it being blown away.

Agree with all that's been said so far. Great food, great entertainment [band, wet t's & jocks etc..], great toilets and great MATES!!!
This rally will be on my calandar for a long time yet. For those of you who didn't come, you missed out on yet another well organised event, even with the nasty weather, it was still all worth it.
