    Fuel tap

    On my gix 750 I had a torn diaphram in the vacuum petcock thingee and suzuki expected me to buy a whole new petcock. I just removed it and plugged the vacuum line so that the fuel just gravity feeds freely.

    Does anyone know where I can get an inline fuel tap I can put in the line to manualy switch the fuel off and stop it dribbling through the carbs and into the engine when I'm not using the bike. Or alternativly I seem to remember hearing about a fuel line quick connector they use on the race bikes that lets you disconnect the fuel line and stops the gas running out.

    Ah, vac-operated petcocks, the very definition of a solution that's worse than the problem.

    If you find out, let me know. I want an inline tap for the exact same reasons.

    As an aside, doesn't this require failure of both the petcock and the float valve in the carb? I left my DR200 sitting in the garage for a month and came back to find that my crank case was full. It was waiting for a rebuild anyway, now completed. Since then, it's leaked once, and only very slightly. While I'm looking for a tap, I'm just pulling the hose off at night and sticking it in a jar -- the last thing my shiny new cylinder needs is washing clean with gasoline every night.

    Can't you just get a whole new (normal!) fuel tap? I would think the non-vacuum ones would be pretty cheap. The hole in the tank is normally about the same size, no? Just need to cut the main/reserve feed hose to the correct length so you still have a normal-sized reserve.

    Pengle do an aftermarket tap to fit my bike for about the same price as a replacement vac-operated tap from Suzuki, in the $80+ ballpark.

    As far as chopping in any old tap, I wouldn't know. I saw a couple of second hand jobs on TradeMe, but I've no idea whether they'll fit, or that they don't already leak.

    I parked up at work today and pulled the fuel line to see whether the tap was leaking and it was giving it waldy, so I went up to Schrodoco and bought a brass tap and a couple of fittings, shoved it inline in my fuel line. Total cost $45. Not cheap, but needs must, and at least I'm not waiting "about a week" for parts priced by Schroedinger and packed by Helen Keller.

    I got a stuffed hyo vacuum one here I can measure up to see if it might fit. List price is about $137 or you can get one in for a bit less.

    Tried an inline pit bike one and no way was it going to flow enough fuel for a 750. Today I got a tap with a ball valve from the local engineering shop and got a couple of brass tails for the hose and it only cost me $20 for the lot. Sorted.

    I recently had the same problem where my diaphram had gone so it was basically gushing petrol into my carbs. Now that the diaphram was replaced it's pretty much fixed, just drips a little occasionally.
    I'm not keen to fix it by getting a new tap as it's overly expensive, it's only an issue when the bike isn't running, anyone know where to get an inline on/off tap that I can use to turn the fuel off at night.

    There's an EMGO cataloque link on KB somewhere. It lists inline taps IIRC.
    Take the part no. number to your bike dealer and order it. Probably listed in the Forbes and Davies cataloque or similar at the shop too.

    I know a bloke who used a plastic lawn mower feul tap. Seemed to do the job.

    I found an EMGO catalogue, the 2008 general parts one i think it was called (2007 maybe can't remember) and they only had fuel filters and lines.
    All I need is a tap that I can turn off at night which won't restrict fuel flow or melt because of the engine heat.

    PM slopster for the address he got his from. That lawn mower one I mentioned was on an inline four and showed no sign of melting.

    Yeah got it from papakura tool and engineering warehouse. The guy reckons they sell a few of them to guys for race cars and the like

    Go to Paykel/blackwoods-get a 3/8 or 1/4 inch lever ball valve and 2 brass hose tails-whole plotll cost ya about $30.00.
