    Parking in Auckland town...

ok, so my "fabulous" boss, just revoked my allocated car park (foolishly took boss at his word n didn't think to insist this was written in contract ....)

So, will be commuting on bike to work, which is just up rd from mt eden m.c's on cnr Khyber/symonds... and need advice on bike parking safety n etiquette from other city based folks. major concern bein thieves n council towies.

no bike parks in area, n only non council parking buildings. have spied a couple of other possible posi's where i cd leave bike...just wondering if anyone can tell me general rule of thumb with parking in town to help avoid the ire of parking wardens/towies/council n other folks who can either slap a ticket or remove bike for bein parked in wrong place - or in fact whether they even bother about bikes? d'yu guys think it's worth it to stick business card on bike (somewhere prominent) so if any probs they cd contact me?

in terms of thieves, bike has flashing led light on dash to go with the immobaliser thingy - i.e must have chipped key to start; n also have a trusty disc lock, so hopefully that's enough?

    any useful advice/suggestions gratefully recieved...

...n yiss, i know i'm bein a bit of a but i don't want any harm to come to my baby.

Towies won't touch it. Parking wardens may ticket it though... they're just cunts.

All the Auckland City Council carpark buildings have free motorcycle parking if you park in the designated areas. Who owns the one on the corner of Auburn Street/Kyber Pass - Wilsons?

Here's the list of designated motorcycle parking. There appears to be a space in Boston Road - isn't it almost right outside Mt Eden M/C? I seem to remember seeing one there.

And your boss is a cunt. Are you sure he's not a parking warden?

    So what's the problem?
Just park there and put a ridiculous price tag on your bike that noone would buy.

Galbraiths car park across the road?

Lots of nooks and crannies (and crooks and nannies, too) around that area.

Remember, what looks like footpath often isn't Often it's actually part of the property of the building. Look for bits between stairways, buttresses, little alleys between buildings.

But, if you had a car park, that implies a car park area. Surely there is a dead end bit that you could prak the bike into there?

Hey chaps, many thanks for advice and links provided.

umm, Marmoot, nice idea....dunno that MtEC will like my Go Nasty parked outside, but i'll give it a shot lol.

As for speedie's idea about Billy's fundraising...umm, be less likely that the bike'd actually be there at the end of the day...might get sold to help raise even more funds lol!!

n yup, my boss is a cnut, but a stoopid one clearly...didn't think thru the consequences in terms of employee loyalty/good will etc. anyway...

thanks Ixion for the tips - unfortunately the car park i had was a gated, swipe card entrance and exit jobby, so cant still access it. ...but there are heaps of nooks n crannies round the building, so....

    cheers again,
    jo

Count your blessings. A stupid boss is better than a cunning one.

parking on the footpaths, no matter how out of the way you are will more than likely earn you a ticket (i learned from experience)......take a lock or a few locks with you else parking tickets will be the least of your worries

ummm "thanks?" bomma. not familiar with your situ, so not really sure what to make of the prophecy/warning of impending doom type statement? ...was kinda more angling for the type of advice that gives me something to work with? ...perhaps some more info? cheers.

Exactly how much information are you looking for? There seems to be plenty of advice and information in here. Are you seeking valet parking or something?

ahem, max...to clarify, i was meaning "more info" bout bomma's situ, as I didn't quite understand his post...it seemed like a warning, but i'm still unsure of the details...

as mentioned in my earlier post, i'm exceptionally grateful for the links/tips etc, and as a result, parked th bike in th boston rd area today.

....but hey max, if you wanna take things further, n provide valet parking that'd be great dude....

mods: feel free to close the thread off now. cheers to all who responded....

He's meaning theres currently a thing going whereby the council has decided we are pests and should be eradicated from any footpath type areas. Ixion refers to the case where the "footpath" is private property, here the wardens cant touch but they may accidently overstep their boundaries. Isnt there a carpark on the corner up there? There should be some triangle spots or similar where you'd be fine to setup.

Your council needs to have a good hard look at itself, Brisbane city council has just added 600 or so bike parks free with no time limits to attract bikes to the city to cut congestion, the way it has been done is fringe areas of the city have had the foot paths cut in half with painted bike parks. The futherest most people would have to walk once parked would be approx 800mtres.

No. It needs marching out and exterminating with extreme prejudice at the roadside. They're a bunch of incompetent short-sighted fucks.
