I gotta say both, i bought a gn250 that was mostly beaten but a good one to learn on, i rode up and down the driveway and the road at work getting to grips with speed, then laid out cones and obsticals to go around, then i went and did a riding course with ward fischer and my practical in one go.

Well im lucky enough to have a lovely partner who bought me a bike hehe and I go thru Pass Rite and use his GN250 for learning and the test (fingers crossed for sunday, no rain) then I go home and go round the block a few times on my own bike

but if it was me buying I would have gone for a cheapie that was used so I didnt worry to much bout dropping
