WTF? I agree with Tariana Turia

She appears to have moved, rather rapidly, to the dark side. When asked if the dole should be scrapped she says:

"Yes. Absolutely. I'm opposed to the dole. I have to be very frank with you - I don't think it is healthy for the spirit of our people, to be getting money for doing nothing."

    Shit yes.

"What we need is the government to make work, to get our people back into a strong work ethic."

Their butts off the fucking couch? Surely you jest. Has Tariana forgotten which party she's a member of?

"Mrs Turia said the Maori Party also wanted to set up a community development bank to provide loans to Maori and their small businesses."

Ahhh nope. Racist loans. Sorry, "loans". Normal service has been resumed.

They tried years ago... and it ended up costing the government and the taxpayer more...

There simply wasn't enough work, and or they couldn't create enough extra work...

I think you'll find that she only equates dole as "money for doing nothing". This doesn't extend to all the maori women on DPB breeding for government $$.

Equate that to the abnormally high representation of maori in child neglect stats if you wish....

    Already it's called 'kiwibank'

I agree with the other stuff though! Sounds great!

And no, before the slagging begins, I'm not racist. There's plenty of white trash living on the dole too.

Don't worry dude, both the Maori Party and The Green party had me reacting favourably right up until Jeanette and Rod decided they were going to ban private vehicle ownership immediately and Tariana got caught making generalised racist insults about white people.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

She's making me proud to be a Maori

Hope they leave the DPB alone though, I know I wouldn't wanna be a solo mum with less time available to spend bringing up my kids. Sure that's not how they all roll, but would rather not mess with the ones that treat that job (being a mum) with the attention it deserves.

nah cmon nigger, everyone does that.

It does make you wonder though doesn't it - Lots of land entering into private ownership is getting quietly closed to the public - Mt Tarawera, Mt Putauaki - no vehicles allowed!

That's the only sensible thing I've ever heard her say.

I can therefore assume that she's been misquoted.

Only if that means one who was born here...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Seems a pretty quick way for her to LOSE a lot of the Maori vote... tell them they will have to go to work to get the dole. Doubt it will fly.

Not work for the dole, work for a wage....

Big difference. Big big big difference.

Can you imagine it? Anyone think they would turn up regularly? never mind put in enough effort to make their unnecessary work worthwhile. What a joke. Just another fat gravy train.

It would just be a case of upgrading their dole payments to minimum wage (if not more) and then spending billions of our money to administer the scheme.

I can already see the thousands of law-suits for unfair dismissil...oh wait, They couldn't get fired.

    Madness and bullshit.

LOL, I really wish my ex's family would have the balls to acknowledge why there is a distinct all over tan thing happening as throwbacks in the family, then my kids could take advantage of the offers available for Maori

On the subject of DPB, I agree with you in part, but...

I think it should be structured a bit differently. While a huge number of the recipients are grateful for it, budget wisely and really put the effort into being there for their children, there are far too many that dont.

DPB is easy money for some, and some kids are terribly treated/neglected as a result. At risk of offending the civil libertarians amongst us (me actually being one) I think that the DPB should be paid with WHO guidelines in mind. Something along the lines of shelter and food at the top of the list followed by electricity/gas, clothing and so on till you get to spending money.

A fully disclosed budget should be mandatory, the NZ Budget Service provides this service free for those that dont have the skills to make one. Then there will be clear amounts for what is needed to provide the basic necessities, shelter, food etc and appropriate vouchers/auto deductions from benefit can be made. This will ensure that families have a roof over their heads and food on the table, the money can not be pissed/smoked/snorted/gambled etc away.

I understand how discriminatory it may be to have to produce a voucher instead on cash/eftpos at a supermarket, but rather that than no food being provided. Imagine the security of knowing your rent is paid, your power bill is paid and you have food for your kids.

Before I get shot down in flames here, I would hate the thought of someone officially overseeing my budget, but if that was the only way to support my kids I would do it without question.

I have been in a place with 3 kids on my own earning a pittance, barely managing to make ends meet, to learn that I am about to lose my job. I did enquire about the DPB as a back up if I could not find a job in time...Yeah, Nah! Supermarket shelf stacker would have suited me better, and I probably would have been better off.

    OMGoodness, what a spiel...
