Hardcore Biker
Anyone know of any NZ based proxy servers (pay ones ok). A friend in
the US wants to get some info from sites that restrict to NZ IP
addresses - all legitimate stuff.
Alternatively, if I get a dynDNS address, can I set up a proxy server on my home network? Anyone done it/ able to set it up for me?

DynDNS with proxy software and some port forwarding tom foolery would be OK for occasional use but if it's gonna be a regular thing then I'd suggest a VPN. I wouldn't muck around with a software one either. Set up something like a D-link DSL-G804V, very stable for months on end and they just work without any shagging around.

Its easy enough to set one up if you have some Linux. just install squid or privoxy and ssh tunnel in and you are away.

Not usually. Linux is like an infinitely large rabbit warren - ANYTHING is possible, its just a matter of knowing any one of the nineteen different ways of doing it.

In his case, install privoxy on the target machine, and ssh to it while tunneling a local port to the input of the privoxy box. Its going to take 25 seconds to install privoxy, and two minutes to google the ssh command to forward the ports. That is quicker than the time it took for him to post his message here. Trivial.

The machine is Windows XP. For various reasons, Linux isn't an option.
Any Win options?

Him running Windows is not an issue. DB is pointing out that if you had a Linux computer in NZ, you could easily set up a proxy server yourself.
Depending on what he's doing, I could possibly do this from my home ADSL connection. But I can't have it sitting around too long, my upload speed is very slow (160kbps), and I have download/upload caps etc. But if he just wants to view a few (legit) websites or order things through local companies etc. then that should be fine.

Dunno. You just need to boof an Ubuntu CD in any old piece of shit computer and boot it, then apt-get install privoxy. Done - itsa proxy. If you are not following me on this, then you should probably pay someone to do it for ya, or bite the bullet and just do it and watch the magic.
Don't do it bro. Never proxy some random person off the net for any reason. Just don't do it.

Depends on your router. You'll have to fanny about with port forwarding (www.portforward.com will help) and noip.com. loads of free windows proxy software out there....try http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/pr...r-download.htm
