    Quasi VMMC 6 Report

The last VMMC (R5) was a bit of an educational for me (first time racing on the Motard in all) and I took away from it alot of information from the other tarders about setup, I took this away and spent a bit of time and coin getting the bike soughted better for round 6, firstly here is what I did.

Opened up the pipe with a 50mm perf tube
Dynoed the beast (produces 45.4 Hp at Rear Wheel) nice smooth torque curve
    New rear Brake pads
Re Geared the bike to 15/38

So I went out into R6 qualifying for a ten min session, The bike definately felt faster than what it was, sounded better to incidently, but ended up in a slack arse 13th spot............not to happy here, it should be better than this after the effort put into it, something aint right here I wasnt even hitting 6th gear as I came into the pitlane we where all greeted with a red flag and a MNZ steward, who told us all off about some of us having our feet out, it was explained to us that this is a road racing event and therefore we are not permitted to put our feet out under any circumstances WTF ???? the way I look at it
1/ if its a Motard only (no other classes mixed in) race its therefore by default a Motard race and we should be able to ride the bikes in a traditional way...........its like saying to the sportsbike guys no knees out ! and
2/ where does it say in the MNZ rulebook we cannot put out our foot? (ya got to in some cases I learned)

Anyway something was wrong with the bike, the backing nut on the pedal adjustment had fallen off !! (bad look huh?) and I was progressively loosing free play and gaining brake so when I came in the back brake was about 70% on !!

Quickly fixed thanks to my mate Gavin from Henderson yamaha (cheerss bro)

    Race 1

Got a good start and got into about 7th spot on turn one went through the infield well and hit the back straight where I didnt even use 6th gear to its max on the straights............I think me gearing was still wrong, but had a great race some brilliant dicing with William Tapara (who piped me for 9th) I ended up in 10th spot, which was better than practically last in the previous round !
I peelled lots of time off my last result by about 4 secs ,was about 1.28 but now down to about 1.24

    Race 2

I re geared the bike 15/40 to make the best use of the top gear, didnt seem to make to much difference to lap times though, again got a good start getting in the top group of bikes, then hit the infield twisties and then OH FUCK !! (memories of vmcc last year came back) right infront of me a bike went down which left me no where to go but straight off the track (at speed) I thought here we go again ten weeks off work YAY (not) I hit the turf and kept her straight and true then thought fuck it im on a tard so didnt slow down much and ended up popping out about the infield hairpin (turn 4?) I lost about 5-6 spots and got a few back in the first lap, so I had to get me head back into it and went all out to get a decent spot, coming into Dunlop I was going in way to hot and had me another moment, the peg hit the deck and whacked my boot of the peg (this is why we put our foot out I suspect) the bike wanted to throw me off, fuck knows how it didnt but I got it under control but this cost me some time and before you know it me mate Tapara was on me (was good actually we had a good dice) back into turn one both not wanting to give in practically touching bikes, the bugger got me to damn it !! After that it was down to keeping my position while trying to catch the Tapara, ended up in my familair 10th spot.

    Learning's this round

1/ Think I need a bit more horsepower, bike still not cutting it with some others, will get decent Air filter and do some jetting work done
2/ Rider still needs to grow bigger balls
3/ Ducks earn the classification as Oil and get the oil flag
4/ Ducks like bike racing and should be behind the pit wall if only for their own safety
    5/ VMCC rock

So thanks to my sponsors (yeah I got some !!!!)

Nice report, Quasi. Some solid improvement going on there and even better times to come in a race with less drama, I’m sure!

Those ducks are a bit of a worry, eh! I nearly mowed a family of them down with my knee slider at round 5

Great report mate. Especially the 'another 10 weeks off work' moment.

You'd think the noise would scare the ducks away but.

hmmm those ducks were certainly getting it on guess they did not realise it was a family show & bonking on the track, on the infield and everywhere else they could (even a bit a group session going on )

guess there were no flags appropriate for that

good to see you again Brett .. til next yr huh
