On regular weekend rides... I can use $300-$500 worth of fuel... wish it was only $80 worth

thanks for the advice people, well its still doing it, on two occasions I have been changing gear and its gonna saound weird but when I put my foot down to change up when it reaches about N the bloody footlever starts moving up and down really fast, it wasnt heaps of movement its hard to guess coz it only happened for about half a second, but maybe 5-8mm up and down. thats happened twice both shifting from first to second, Ive booked the 5000k for tomorrow so il get the guys to check it out.

With that moving gear lever up and down fast like that, is it also making a clicking noise at the same time? Kind of sounds like the clutch is dragging or you're not using the clutch properly.

Mine used to find a false neutral between 5th&6th, holding pressure on the gear leaver till after clutch release worked a treat.

Although since I've changed to Castrol GPS the problem seems to have disappeared

    Any joy at the garage?
Second service is normally 6k BTW but i guess you've got a good reason to take it in early.

I'd guess they've just adjusted the cable. It will stretch quite a lot in the first few thousand km so won't be fully disengaged when you pull in the lever - thus dragging even when pulled in the whole way.

I've had that a few times on my '88 model. Between 6th and 5th I think.
There isn't really enough to start a club for it, but this website is dedicated to the ninja 250, loads of good info on there, check the wiki and the forum.
