How to get the girlfriend to use protection?

I'm in a bit of a pickle.. Can't get my girlfriend to wear anything other than a lid on the back of my bike.

Simple you say? don't let her on?

Theres no way I would live with myself If I binned and she lost her skin. So it sounds simple no gear, no ride.

But now comes the problem of me turning up to work on my bike (we work at the same place, often start at different times but finish tlogether).
Now I've got to make her get the bus home? 35+min whilst I'm home in 10?

No sex for me tonight then

I don't know how to make her understand the importance of gear, even after a near fatal bin of my own. I've offered to buy her gear, but can't get her to the shop to try any on!

    Any suggestions?

I've resorted to taking the car lots more in an effort to not put myself in that situation.

I had the same sort of problem with my new missus. It took some time to get her in all the gear but i tried to make it look like her idea by dropping into bike shops in the car.First she started looking at leather pants told her gee you look good in them .Flattery is a great way to get your own way Gloves and decent boots just took a few rides in some cold rain

Ask her what the problem is.

It's pretty clear you have discovered that you can't "make" chicks "do" anything, so full marks there. Sounds to me like you have a creative discovery process in front of you - whats really the problem?

You could just say "no gear, no ride" but you might lose more than you gain.

From personal experience, don't let her on without gear. You're better off losing the girlfriend than having to sit around in waiting rooms waiting for surgery to finish.

But then we're not allowed express opinions based on personal experience because Conquiztador gets angry.

Show her this, or does she need something stronger?

    Does she have nice gear?

If all she has is cheap ill-fitting bulky cordura shit I'm not surprised she doesn't want to wear it.

Get her a nice Dainese leather jacket and some decent boots that are comfortable enough to walk in. Actually, check out the Quasimoto ladies jackets as well. And Rev'it make some very plush and tidy-looking riding gloves.

Trousers are usually the most pain-in-the-arse part of gear to deal with - I'm personally happy to let the missus on the back in plain trousers like she wears to work, so long as she's wearing all the other gear, but I guess you gotta stick to whatever level of safety you're comfortable with.

    Read this: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...oad+rash+chick

It would appear the guy riding was a moron, but when hitting the road is a foregone conclusion it makes no diffference who is at fault.

    I have to agree.

She will soon realise that being on the back with the gear is better than a bus ride any day and come to her senses, especially since you get home so quickly. You have to be cruel to be kind and if she can't see that you are just doing her a favour, she just isn't worth the hassle.

Take a female friend that is about the same size as your girlfriend and just go and buy the gear. Tell her that she wears it or she can't get on. She will have no excuse.

That should be enough to convince her......
