    Str8 Jacket's Round 6

After racing my first race last round I was addicted. I had set myself some goals last round and achieved them so I decided to do the same.

Last round I started off doing 1.45's on the Saturday and was doing 1.41's on the Sunday. So my goals for Saturday were easy....
    1. Try for 1.39's
    2. Finish every race

Another problem that I had last round was an ill fitting helmet that covered my vision when I tryed to tuck in to the bike. Vicki had given me a helmet to try out for this race so I was looking forward to giving it a go.

I was pretty nervous when I got to the track and felt sick and my stomach was aching. I had somehow convinced myself that I was probably gonna crash at some stage and it was playing on my mind. I also had a rear tyre on the RG that I should have retired before the last race......

    Qualifying:

Once I got out there I was sweet as. I felt relaxed and happy and just went around slowly getting faster. I was stoked to qualify with a 1.40 My position on the grid wasnt the best, but wasnt the worst. Anyway, I stuck out a mile with my fluro on!

    Race 1:

I got a really average start but I started to relax early. I started tucking into my bike and it felt so much better. The bike is more stable and I swear it goes a lil faster too.... Once the field cleared away a bit I was having a battle with a couple of other guy's. They actually helped me go a bit faster and gave me somethig to aim for. However they got past me eventually and I was on my own. Came in feeling pretty happy with my run to discover I did a 1.38, I was stoked!

    Race 2:

I got a fucken awesome start and then bloody Luke decides he needs a lay down and ruins the whole thing!

    (glad you're OK dude!)

    Restart:

I was feeling really bummed that I had had a great start and thought I couldnt do it again. Boy was I wrong! I got a great start and even came flying past my man Malcolm, then somehow while coming out of turn 1 he flew past me and off into the distance!

I had another great battle with Ryan Firn. He was riding an RGV150 so I could blast past him on the straights but he was killing me on the corners. I really wanted to get past him but I didnt want to crash so I just kept at it, finally making him run off the track at the hairpin. It was interesting to note that the last lap that I held him off for was my fastest of the day at 1.37!! woot woot!

I had a great day, wanted more but my legs are soo sore today I wouldnt've coped! I have established the areas that I need to work on, like braking later and getting into the right gear. Thanks to all those that have helped me out and given me advice!! Once I start learning to hang of the bike a bit I reckon I could get into the 135's easy!

Thanks to all the pit crew, my mates that encourage me, lend me boots and leathers and helmets etc etc and especially my sexy man

Thanks to VMCC for helping me become addicted to racing.

Well done on the personal best, you managed to shave heaps of time off. Those starts were brillant, I'm going to have to practise mine now...
Once you start feeling comfortable shifting your weight you'll be lethal.
Also thanks for the support and encouragement both you and Malcom gave me. If it hadn't been for you guys I wouldn't have raced that round.
While you sit there liking things just cos' everyone else does, I'll be standing up here keeping it real.

Well done helen! Really good times for your second race meeting . I only ever did a 1:36:9 on a RG150 around manfield! Had my big jump in speed later on in the season.

Was really cool how i ended up finishing right next too you at the end of the 2nd race. Could see you smiling from ear to ear even with the tinted visor on.

    Keep it up!

You're awesome Hels. The buzz off you and Flame on the weekend was real infectious. Getting those first races under the belt and carving that much time off is an excellent achievement and I agree with Billy. The trick is to keep refining the basics and working on one or two things each time you're out there. I get the feeling you might race a couple more times.
