If you have fines, and nothing better to do u should do community work. Save your dole money and actually do something.
The most you can get is 400hrs in a year.

Sentencing isn't as simple as the poll makes out. The factors in the Sentencing Act 2002 MUST be taken into accout by the judge.

I'm glad you feel community work is doing some good for you SM.

it would be a good idea if it was enforced properly, but as has been
said its to easy to abuse the system do 1/4 or less of the hours an
write off the rest.....i know of a few who have done just that.
It would be better to assign more PD than CS force them to work.

Someone I went to school with owed $10,000 in driving fines this was then changed into approximately 100 hours of community service work. He thought this was absolutely hilarious.

They should drive em hard, and beat them every time they break pace.

for most workers it is supervised and they have to work the entire time. (supervised by employess of nz justice or whatever)

the less serious offenders like myself get to go with a "sponser"

ie a community group ie a church etc, where you help out.

minimum of 6 hours pw MUST be completed.

Mark not sure of your situation but hey if community work is what works for you then go for it, oh and ask for a reference at the end of it from your sponsor if you can, you have a bit of paper that says you worked and work well at the given tasks is always good.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
