Don't run reds. You noticed that, eh? Perhaps even "engage brain before running red"?

I wonder how experienced the policeman was to take chase like that?

I always thought in a chase the order of priority is:

    Criminal thoughts:
    1. Me first
    2. Cop second
    3. Bystanders third

    Policeman's thoughts:
    1. Bystanders first
    2. Me second
    3. Criminal third

Or - Criminals act then think, police should think then act. Doesn't give much time to the policeman.

Yes, although what I heard in two separate reports was ... "The police car was chasing a speeding moped".

A speeding moped? Surely that has to be an oxymoron ... (and I don't mean it was being ridden by a stupid cow)

"The officer was following a moped that was travelling at speed"

Very important..catching those speeding mopeds, might have gotten up to all of 60kph.

Explains why the idiot ran the red light though, I see all sorts if idiotic moped behaviour riding to work each day.

    Moped?

I awoke to this small detail on this morning's news. It made me smile.

Hard to explain why, but the fact that it was a moped he was chasing prompts images of the Keystone Cops. It's hard to imagine why you would need to travel at speed to catch up with a moped.

I thought police had to put the criminals before themselves... crims are humans too and have REAL feelings.. plus they get LCD tv's and xbox in the slammer

We don't know if the light changed red as the bike went through - if so he was naughty and deserved a fine if caught. The biker can hardly take the blame for the actions of the police - the officer that crashed is responsible for his own actions.

On the other hand we DO know that the Police officer ran a red light causing an accident - he had a job to do and did that job incompetently. I would hope for a fair review of his actions and suitable punishment for the officer, just as I would be punished if I ran a red light & caused an accident. The police have a job to uphold the law, they are not above the law!

Police are terrible at intersections. I onced witness a police car speed through an controlled interesction late at night with no siren or lights going and almost taking out a car that was going through a green light, cop actualy tooted at them and speed off.

Na, some cop who didn't follow proceedure has cost himself a traffic conviction and a delay in his next promotion. Oh, and there's a victim too, whos going to get pestered by those tree huggin lesbians from victim support.

Actually, all we know is a moped ran a red light. Shit they do that all the time in Welly. Not worth a reckless high speed puruit, but is worthy of a ticket.

I wonder what the chances of a serious accident are RUNNING a red light? They look fucking good, regardless of whehter you have red and blue flashy bits and a loud horn or not.

I'd assume you have already put pen to paper and advised your superiors of your position.
Come on Scummy, you have to laugh at this one, go one, just once.

If it was a moped, why on earth did the pursuit need to be with such urgency. Its not likely to speed of into the distance is it? Sounds like newspaper dribble to me.

About the moped speeding Ive got one thatll do 70 on the flat and 80 downhill with a tail wind
And I had to run a red light the othernight because i was going to fast for the conditions
Got it side ways trying to slow down then decided Id be better off getting it straight again and getting to the other side of the intersection before the logging truck did
I slowed right down after that
