    Knobbly tyres?

are motards allowed to have knobly at the 1 hour endurance race at the slipway or do they have to have road tires?

From watching the guys at Mt Welly, I would say the knobbly tyres would be quite dangerous. Thay dont heat up enough to give you good grip.

Do a Burt Munroe and cut the knobbly bit off with a carving knife- bingo....
    slicks.

Even the guys here in Taumarunui who use the dirt section as well as the tarmac have semi-treaded tyres, but dont run knobblys at all.

    No. Adventure tires are ok.

Knobblies are actually kind of grippy on tarmac, provided you run normal tyre pressures. (ive tried ).

Not quite, they heat up more than normal tyres due to the smaller area of rubber to heat, and the blocks of tread move and flex which makes them heat up more. It's just the reduced contact patch which makes them less desirable on the track.
