Saving time on household chores...

Well it is a be-a-u-tiful day here in Aucks but alas my bandit is sitting sadly in the garage while I get on with a truckload of housework (of course only being on kb for just a few minutes.....! lol)
I was at the clothesline folding stuff straight off it, as I do, and I wondered how many other people have timesaving hints on their chores. By folding things at the clothesline they aren't creased from being bunched in a heap in the basket, and you can fold sheets etc. without having to put up with moaning from others when you ask for a hand. By the time the folded items have sat ready for people to take away to their rooms the washing has pressed itself, so no need to iron! In fact I hated ironing so much that now, because I only need to do it so infrequently, it's actually a novelty each time I do it. How sad is that
I also read somewhere that if you wear glasses, don't wear them while vaccuuming etc. - the job gets done a lot quicker 'cos you can't see half the mess!
Anyway, any other hints out there for those of us who would rather be riding than taking ages to tidy our houses? (and no, leaving it all for someone else to do is not an option.......)

I feel your pain PB - I am stuck washing and cleaning too - thankfully not too much cleaning but on a sunny day it sucks that the clothesline is where I am currently confined to.

Time saving hint lately has been to just go for a ride and forget about it not really helpful...

Easy. I do it wrong the first time which pisses off Mrs Portokiwi so she bans me from working and cleaning in the house Much better. Work is done much faster..... By her and I get to watch read and do bugger all. Hope this helps.

Easy... washed laundry (t shirts etc) go on the top of the pile in ya cupboard...

you takes from the bottom... if you fold neatly, its nicely pressed by the time it comes out the bottom. No ironing

Or, use mountain type wear that is very fast drying, doesn't need ironing etc

Dry business shirts on a hanger, no peg marks and they iron easier.
Dry undies and socks in the clothes drier, they take ages to peg out and then un-peg, quicker to bung the whole lot in one load in the drier.
Clean the bath/shower while you're waiting for your conditioner to do its 3 minute thing.
When the cat comes in soaked from being in the rain, get him to lie on the kitchen floor and spin him round and round, clean floor!

I don't normally go riding on long weekend mondays, too many gooses on the road.....so i am doing a spring clean today... The other thing i could have been doing today was kiteboarding, but the forecast was for no wind bloody metservice wrong again!

I had no idea that clothes lines were still in common usage over there.

I don't think I've actually ever seen a clothes line being used in real life here in the states.

Do they work better? Are household energy costs stupid expensive? Do they get rid of the need for ironing?

Clean clothes can be found on your neighbours line.
Local coke head will hoover the carpet if you spill a bit of washing powder on it.
Mushrooms growing in the shower are normal.

No sweat, when my wife came to L.A. she insisted that I install a clothes line in the backyard. Being an American, I was aghast (What not use a machine?), but relented. After putting it up, she put the clothes out to dry. Like in the old days. Later that day, when the clothes were dry, we took them down and they had soot all over them from the air pollution and particulate matter that is in the air in LA.
Maybe living under the flight path of Burbank airport didn't help...

I didn't do it on purpose and have only done it a few times in 15 years. That cute little merino sweater turned into a tiny little merino sweater...

Wash business shirts on the body, in the shower.
Hang 'em somewhere warm on a hangar for the evening.
Lay them under the matress when you go to bed.
Fish 'em out in the morning all nice an' pressed.

Nothing else needs ironing if you hang it up before it's quite dry.

Tried the "incompetent male" thing. Didn't work, just got left with me own stuff to deal with... Figured the same policy orta work when it came to vehicle maintenance and painting and stuff. Didn't.
